What will Intel offer at $250 that's better than the R5 1600x and what does that part look like? A locked 4C/8T i5 clocked at around 3.8 GHz?

I'm very impressed with Ryzen. They've caught up to Intel in a lot of areas, although not all, and are offering something that is actually causing Intel to have to adjust its prices a bit. That is pretty incredible given how horribly uncompetitive AMD was in the past few years. I think AMD now...

LG 38" Curved 3840x1600 Ultrawide FreeSync

Monitor looks fantastic, but 52-75hz FreeSync isn't good enough on the low end. With that resolution you want it to be able to drop down to 30hz with LFRC.

I agree with everyone that it's bizarre that it's so demanding given how it looks. The performance on AMD is poor and even Nvidia isn't doing great. It will be interesting to see what happens with DX12 and/or further optimization.

RX 480 vs GTX 1060 (same price)

I think the 1060 is slightly faster right now but I would personally go with the RX480 because of AMD's track record with DX12/Vulkan and console optimized games. The RX480 seems likely to stand up better over the long run. But they're pretty close in all respects and both seem like...

Crimson 16.9.1 reduces CPU overhead by quite a margin, several titles see boots in performance.

I have a 34" 2560x1080 LG 34UM67 which runs at 75hz and has FreeSync and it's great. I was using a 27" 1080p before, so the resolution doesn't bother me. I think it's the perfect size for gaming, although if you have money to spare then I'd recommend a 3440x1440 resolution. I would definitely...

This is a great idea. It would be a review site that applies its own subjective view of what graphics options are optimal from an IQ vs. performance basis and then tests using those settings. The most important part of this would be to explain why a certain setting was chosen and use screenshots...

Next-gen API benches for RX 480 & 1060.

Now that the 480 performance has jumped in ROTR, is that still a broken DX12 implementation? I guess it depends on whether it's faster in DX11 or DX12. Also the fact that the 480 is faster than the Fury X suggest that it's still broken.

That's a fair point. If the RX 480 continues to distance itself from the 1060 in DX12 and Vulkan then the efficiency will also skew towards the 480. I guess we'll have to see how the upcoming generation of games perform.

A call to ALL Nvidia owners - It's time to check our latency

I just tried this myself and I get huge latency spikes and I'm running a R9 290x. Are you sure this is an Nvidia problem? Seems like it could be any number of things. Edit: The latency is caused by ataport.sys.

Yeah, the RX 480 will almost certainly be faster than the 1060 in newer games - and maybe by a lot. But the 1060 is still more power efficient by a good margin.

Funny, I sort of think the opposite. The people who are willing to pay $60 for games are the ones that make it profitable for companies to make them and allows cheaper gamers like me to buy them at a discount after a few months/years. It's a cross-subsidy of sorts.

Yes, all else being equal, a lower wattage card is a significant benefit. My 290x can really ramp up the temperature in the room when it's going full tilt!

Yes, AMD is playing the only hand they have at the moment. They don't have anything to offer at the high end right now. But I wouldn't call the RX 480 a power hog - it's just very unexceptional for the new lithography node. But by the standards of just last year it's a pretty efficient card.
