I hit the HP website yesterday to configure a notebook, comparing it to a low end Dell, and one of the things i was impressed by was that they were only charging $58 to upgrade to XP Pro, vs Dell wanting $150.

Battery rechargers and rechargable batteries

I've been buying nicads from Thomas distributing for years and always reliable service. Get a good recharger and a box of batteries and they will last almost forever. I buy them now for gifts and for the latest highest capacity AAA's. Good site. One point to make though - it seems every time...

Dell outlet notebooks free shipping 5/5

Remember - they do not say never powered up - They don't know if it's been booted - I've read how others get the system, Ghost it immediately - have their way with it and then restore the ghost image and return it. They just never went thru the reqular splash screen power up to windoze.

DFW Fry's: Athlon 64 X2 3800+ and ECS KN1 SLI Lite $299.98 + tax

I got their X2-3800/ECS BF deal for $270 or $280. Price should go down, not up. ECS m/b's are crap - yet because of Fry's I buy about 1 every other year because they are essentially free with the processor. Support is pitiful. First one - the manual was for the wrong version, some jumpers...

Dead -->Hauppauge PVR 150 for $59.99 at CC after rebate

Yup - winflash worked - even though the readme with the file said to only do it thru DOS. Mmmmm 4Ghz folding for the Horde! By the way - W2K DID NOT recognize 2 CPU's without the flash.

Agreed - I've built three folders in the last several years, with ECS/AMD combos, bought dirt cheap because of the CPU. The worst one was the first one with a manual that did not match the board and piss-poor silk screening so I could not read the jummpers. That's been running about 5 years...

Well the $/GB could be better, about 2 years ago I got the 120Gb WD from CC for $10+tx after 3 rebates :), but I need a big HD and I'm running out of ide connections. And I prefer the FIVE year warranty. Break the drive in 4.5 yrs and get free replacement.

This is a GREAT idea that never took off. The pen is bulky, like a supersize sharpie, and you do need special paper. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/produ...uctlist/US/EN,crid=1845&categoryid=346 But for mapping applications it looked great.

That's right - Dell deals are cyclical, and I'm cynical. They try to make numbers at the end of the month (fair deals), end of their quarter (good deals) and end of their fiscal year (great deals). I'm looking for a 24" monitor for about $700, I hope.

Tonight's Woot, Flaming Hot

c'mon dudes and dudettes - First of all - don't complain because a woot doesn't last long. Set your alarm clocks and get up when it starts. This particular unit received a 6.8 out of 10 from 40 users on Cnet. I got mine at about 4am EDT. It's not a GREAT bargain, but a good one at least.

Tape To MP3 Converter $99+SH at Geeks...

I just hook my mp3 player (Creative Nuvo) up to my tape deck headphone jack and record to go from tape to mp3. I'm not sure why one would want to go from mp3 to tape, but it can't be much harder. Now do they have one for 8 track tapes? :)
