    Replacing Accessory belts (97 Civic)

    You have three belts to loosen, remove, and replace in the reverse order. The PS pump pivots, the AC belt has an idler pulley, and the alternator belt pivots. As long as you don't remove the engine mounts, it shouldn't fall on you. In the FSM it's pages 17-32, 22-43, and 23-125.

    Alternator. It was OEM factory reman. so I think it was around $200. Shortly before that it was the radiator (and I decided to also do the hoses, clips, thermostat, and coolant fan switch). Don't remember the cost. Shortly before that it was the ignition coil which died on my commute home...

    I've used http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ and they'll have line drawings that may help you understand how it comes apart. I used to order from Manchester Honda but they've jacked up their shipping rates.

    I use the 3M one, but do so sparingly to reduce the risk of paint damage. It works for me. Plus, I only use it if I really can't get it off some other way.

    I did for that accidental breakage thing and it was very painless. I think now you can even file it online. They called to verify a few things, but there were no problems and they credited my account.
