  1. ip routing question

Yes, that's one option. Just assign an IP on the Server's 2nd interface that's it. The 2nd interface would either plug into the same flat network or a 2nd vlan port on the switch I assume that the network is a flat 10.0.0.0/16, hence all the devices can talk to each other. Either that or...
  2. Netflix weak signal on TV, need a booster

I think IndyColtsFan's answer is good - especially with Powerline... I personally have used Powerline adpaters successfully over the years. It works by plugging a wired Ethernet cable from the network device into an adapter that plugs into a normal wall power socket. The data then traverses...
  3. D-Link Gaming Router with traffic shaping?

  4. Inexpensive router for home network

That Asus 56U router is a little gem :)
  5. traceroute weirdness

That is a very normal traceroute. The row of astericks in the middle mean that device does not respond to ICMP. The lines of Astericks at the end intimate that you have reached the last WAN hop, which also does not respond to ICMP

  11. Signatures - Over 25 posts but can't use?

Hi, I've used the search function and discovered that you need to have had an account for more than 7 days with at least 25 posts in order to be able to use a signature. I'm unable to do this, are there other criteria? Thanks

  15. Power over Ethernet

Agreed - you don't get a job doing PoE
  16. WiFi vs Wired Speeds

Turn off mixed mode if you can. With your setup, if one Wireless B device is within range of your network, ALL your 2.4GHz traffic will fall down to those speeds (11Mbps theoretical)
  17. New Asus router...

Depends on what you are using the router for. If the users in your home are heavy data users, particularly on the LAN, then having fast, stable wireless is important.
  18. Switch/Router/ Groups/Users question

To be honest, I'd recommend you go into discussion with the ISP. They could probably provide a solution which would enable failover to a backup circuit should the primary fail. I would imagine they would use 'tracking' or get funky with BGP to accomplish this. If you wanted to do this yourself...
  19. New Asus router...

It's been getting good reviews. Has been tested as the fastest wireless router by some sites. I'd say it would be better than the Linksys for gaming as it has a faster CPU. Could make the difference if you are multi-tasking. Then again, depending on your usage, it may make no difference at all.
  20. Looking for a wireless router....online gaming?

Interesting. Sounds like it might have been a bug?
  22. Will this work to share desktop wired connection @ wifi ?

Could you invest in a budget wireless router? I'd recommend this anyway as I suspect you will be less secure connecting the Internet cable directly to your PC (no NAT etc)
  23. Strange Wifi issue ...

Was going to suggest you make sure your drivers are up to date (noticed you mentioned the new build). However, you tried a USB adapter and still had issues, so unless your MOBO drivers haven't been updated? That's all I can think of right now.
  24. Latency issues

Need to know the specs of the router supplied by Centurylink. To be honest, 9 people using wireless and/or the Internet is going to have an effect on your games playing. I would look into getting a router that at least has QoS: http://bestwirelessroutersnow.com/what-is-the-best-router-for-gaming/

  28. Need an authentication solution on Cisco ASA 5500

With SSL VPN, you grant access (via web browser) to devices (usually servers) based on protocol (HTTP/RDP for Windows etc). The connection is safe and secure up until that pint. What you need to be wary of is where the SSL VPN users can hop onto from that device. Unless you are talking about...

Depending on what your needs are - for under $100 - something cool: http://bestwirelessroutersnow.com/securifi-almond-review/ In what way do you mean 'compatible with NAS'? Do you mean that NAS works locally on you LAN? (all routers will) Or do you mean a router that will allow access to...
  30. Subnet issue with IPSec

They are two different things. The peer address is the 'outside' IP address of their gateway. This is you telling your router where to go to to reach the customer. The customer subnet (also known as 'interesting traffic') is the LAN subnet on the customer side. This is where you specify what...
  31. Worst router I've ever seen has turned out to be one of the best

Indeed, changing firmware can make all the difference :)
  32. Great working, easy to use router for $100 or less

Have you checked with the ISP? Are you sure there is not an issue with the actual Internet connection, rather than the router?
  33. Best Wireless AC Adapter?

If you can, go for PCI-E. Asus have a Wireless AC card, which is well regarded. http://usbwirelessadaptersnow.com/asus-pce-ac66-ac1750-review/ USB-wise, go for the Edimax, as it uses USB 3.0, eliminating the adapter as a bottleneck http://usbwirelessadaptersnow.com/edimax-ew-7822uac-review/

  36. Need a wifi router with good range for friend

They aren't exactly the cheapest, but if you want external antennas (detachable as a bonus) and good coverage (on both bands), then you could go for one of the 2 popular Asus routers? They both get very good reviews... Asus RT-AC66U = www.bestwirelessroutersnow.com/asus-rt-ac66u-review/...
  37. Asus RT ac66u and Asus network card help online gaming speed?

Yes, it should do. Others have mentioned that it's the Internet connection that's the bottleneck, and this is true. However, the Asus router has better specs meaning your gaming traffic will be processed that little bit faster. Also, I notice the Linksys doesn't seem to have QoS (Quality...
