More than 500W PSU for Shuttle SX79R5?

I'm looking for a PSU of more than 500W (may need only 600W 80 Plus) but Shuttle only sells 500W max. Anyone know if there are any 500W+ PSU from 3rd parties that fit the case? Expected specs: CPU: 3930K with Asetek 545LC and Zalman SF2 92mm fan (will overclock). GPU: Blower fan type GTX 780...

    Shuttle SX79R5 3930K and or 4930K

After reading some reviews on the SX79R5 with 3930K (with very old BIOS), the 3930K was throttled because of the power limited (there was a modded BIOS solution). How is it now with the latest BIOS and also 4930K? Could anyone who owns this unit shed a little light on these? Also I am aware...

    Shuttle SX79R5 LGA 2011 - Review

Yes, I used to own one SX79R5 unit, but I sold it a long time ago; now I'm having 6 SZ77R5 units. Both the SX79R5 and the SZ77R5 run mSATA at SATA II speed. A solution for you: use a double sided tape and stick the SSD on the fan's cover (or if you use Asetek 545LC, stick the SSD on the upper...

    Shuttle SX79R5 LGA 2011 - Review

Yes, you read it right, mSATA slot on this shuttle only runs at SATA II 3Gbps. The SATA III drives will work but only at SATA II speed. You said you were going to put a HDD and a card reader into the case, so you only took 2 slots, there are 3 slots in total (2x3.5" and 1x5.25"). Take a look...

    Portable powerful Ultrabook

Lightweight/Portable can't go together with a dGPU. You can always get an Alienware 14 for 2.774 Kg. HD5000 is about 13% better performance compared to HD4400. If you need 60fps to be "smooth", and high to be "look good", I do not think HD4400 or even HD5000 is for you. You will have to wait...

My Start Menu on Windows 8.1

Yeah, I edited my previous post for Computer and Control Panel. For Games you need to create a shortcut (for example on Desktop) to: Target: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /E,::{ED228FDF-9EA8-4870-83b1-96b02CFE0D52} Start in: %windir% And then pin that shortcut to start screen. So, taking your...

My Start Menu on Windows 8.1

Ehm, why don't you just pin them on your Start Screen? The apps can be uninstalled/unpinned. There is All Programs on Start Screen too. Also, there are more spaces for your regularly used programs/shortcuts on the Start Screen (as in Windows 8.1) compared to the old Start Menu.

For OS, you can install the retail version of Windows 7 to the VMs and activate them legally. But for Windows 8, there is no "full retail" version of it. To install and activate Windows 8 legally on VMs you must purchase Software Assurance to Windows (about $30-55 per year), and purchase a...

Anyone know why the Intel NUC has not caught on better?

You said the NUC was a piece of hardware that you could grow with right? Note the "Upgrade as you need". As in a thin client infrastructure you do not need the desktop side of the client. Employees have their own VM session on the cloud, you pay for unused resources = waste.
  19. H

Anyone know why the Intel NUC has not caught on better?

Sorry about that question. What will you do to grow with the NUCs? Why 12 years old? You have a choice to upgrade them every year for the same cost. Upgrade as you need. Read again about "15 mins". You use NUC as a normal desktop AND a thin client, isn't that a waste? Also, think about...

Anyone know why the Intel NUC has not caught on better?

Hey, I'm curious, what do you do when your employees don't use the flexible NUCs that you can grow with anymore? No I weren't contradicting myself. The NUC is x3 the price with x3 warranty, replacing the thin clients every year is the same as replacing the NUCs every 3 years in term of cost...

Anyone know why the Intel NUC has not caught on better?

You don't need to grow with thin clients, they are for displaying contents only. By everyone did you also mean business too? In business, you want lowest cost possible, these thin clients have at least 1 year warranty, and they are so cheap that you can just throw away after 1 year and buy new...

Anyone know why the Intel NUC has not caught on better?

Read again on my business post, the NUC is still too expensive for that purpose. Thin clients are around $200 (fully configured, not barebone) from Dell/HP/Zotac/... And yes, you can use these for digital signage. I still think the NUC's main purpose is for consumer usage, simply because it's...

Anyone know why the Intel NUC has not caught on better?

I agree that typical desktop form factor is dying. But in this business environment, the configuration of a server (or several ones) + multiple thin clients is more cost effective and easier for maintenance. RemoteFX is great. Additionally, volume license for OS is cheaper (Most companies use...

    Acer laptop vs. MacBook?

What is your highest priority? Gaming/3D modeling or long battery life? Else you had to stay with a high powered (also...

Anyone know why the Intel NUC has not caught on better?

Too expensive for what it was made to do (+ 128GB mSATA SSD + 2x4GB RAM + wifi card ~ $500). 1. The NUC's main purpose is to be used as a home theater mini computer, but look at other competitors like the Alienware X51 (sure it's bigger but still small enough to be put in the living room, near...

    Looking for a desktop

Actually not, the pre-built PCs only carry the warranty of these PC manufacturer, in this case Dell and it's only 1 year (extendable for a fee). When you buy parts, you get more warranty, for example the i7-4770 has 3 years parts/labor warranty from Intel.
