CompFreek,
I'm running my K6-III+450 at 600 as well. But I coundn't get my GF2 GTS to run at all .. must be one of those AGP power problems .. so I got an MX instead, runs great.
So, maybe this DOES give you a reason to try it first before it's too late for a refund. :-D
I'm running my K6-III+450@600 on an an VIA MVP3 chipset m/b. I've heard that the 7.xx and 6.31&up Detonator drivers really tear down the D3D performance on m/bs with these chipsets.
So I ran 3DMark2000 and it's true!! .. I only got 1500 3DMarks!! :-(
My video card is a GeForce2 MX.
They say...
Thanks you all for the comments.
I'd say that I go with the 600Mhz (6x100) .. I read a few past K6-3 articles and it seems that the bus speed has negligible increase in performance since the K6-3 has its L2 at full speed.
What sucks is my L3 .. I had to disable it in order for my K6-3+ to run...
Which would you choose?
A K6-3+ 450 running smoothly at 600Mhz at 2.3v (6x100)
or
A K6-3+ 450 running smoothly at 560Mhz at 2.1v (5.5x112)
The difference; one has a 7% increase in cpu clock speed, the other has a 12% increase in bus speed. Which one would you choose?
I was thinking that 600Mhz...
I'd say that it isn't really worth it performance wise.
The K6-2 550 does offer superioir FPU at those speeds .. but the K6-3, w/ it's high speed L2, is on par with the 550's overall performance.
I suggest a great upgrade would be to go to a K6-3+ 450 (they're about $55) .. these chips can go...
Yes, pull out the PC66 ..It won't run at 100Mhz FSB
I'd rather go for 128MB .. you could just buy another PC100 64MB that now are about $50.
PC133 would work but I don't think PC133 has a bright future as DDR comes in.
Suggestion .. sell the K6-3 450 .. it sells on online auctions for about $40...
Does anybody know why my K6-3+ 450 on a FIC Pa-2013 pcb2.0 can only run if I disable the external (L3) cache? .. I'm using the latest beta BIOS
That sucks because I know I'm losing 6-8-% of performance.
What are my chances of getting a K6-3 450 to hit 616 (112x5.5)? ..
How high of a voltage...
