Installing WinXP on a WD 160GB HDD??

Thanks for the replies. I found a good page on the Seagate site that explained everything.http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/faq/137_winxp.html. The motherboard (MSI K7T Pro 2-A) was fine. I updated the BIOS previously and it recognised the whole thing. I installed Windows XP on the first...

Installing WinXP on a WD 160GB HDD??

I just got a Western Digital 160GB HDD and want to install Windows XP Pro. I have the original version of XP, and have heard that there is a limit of about 130GB without SP1. My question is, how do I do the initial installation of Windows? Will it recognise the first 130GB then after SP1 is...

Any 16 yr olds own a 02 Mustang GT ?

Were I come from a Mustang would be out of the question. While on the Learners licence from 16- 18 (where you must be accompanied with another driver) and the Probationary licence (from 18 to 21), you cannot drive a car with more then 125Kw per tonne, and there are other restrictions on certain...

    Need a cheap soundcard

The card based on the VIA envy are quite a good choice. Cards such as the Philips Dynamic Edge PSC604 or Sonic Edge PSC605 should also satisfy your needs. Both are great little budget cards

Monitor doesn't power up. Is it dead?

This happened to one of my 17" monitors recently, there was no power up. I got is repaired - apparently the problem was the power transformer and a burned resistor. It was fixed for $65 AUD. Cheers

    Soundcard under $45..

You've got plenty of choices apart from Creative. The cards with the VIA Envy chip are quite good for the money, and can be bought fairly cheaply, such as the Mad Dog 7.1 Entertainer, Chaintech AV-710 etc. You can also consider the Philips Sonic Edge 5.1 PSC605 and the Hercules Fortissimo III...

Getting SICK of Epson inkjets. Need advice big time.

Can't say that I've experienced this on my cheap C40SX, it does produce some pretty hairy looking text with bi-directional on, and sucks through the ink too. If I had the choice now, I'd definately go for a Canon. Cheers

Which sound card has the lowest load on system?

Probably the SB Live, but if it's going in a computer over 900MHz, the real world difference will be minimal. The C-media 8738 sounds particularly good when the modified CMI 9738/9739 drivers are installed see here for details, but make sure you use the new 9738 drivers from the C-media...

In the parallel there's my Canon CanoScan FB310 and Epson Stylus C40SX connected in daisy chain. Serial port has a Casio Cassiopeia A-11A Win CE 2.0 HPC connected, sometimes a Casio CFX-9850GB+ graphics caluclator connected, other port disabled. Cheers

There is a control panel for the ALC650... it's in the drivers, which you can download from the Realtek website. The control panel offers basic control over SPDIF, speakers and equalizer. It is listed in the control panel as "Sound Effect Manager" Cheers

    Considering m/b for 2400+, KT600 or nForce2-400?

At $190 AU, the Abit mainboard is way out of my budget. At a max I want to spend $110-$130, thats why I'm considering the Gigabyte GA-7N400E, Gigabyte GA-7N400L, ASUS A7N8X-X, Soltek SL-75FRN2-L. I will only be using PC2100 memory with the 2400+.

    Considering m/b for 2400+, KT600 or nForce2-400?

Thanks. Now it comes down to the Asus A7N8X-X or the Giga-Byte GA-7N400E (or for the same price the dual channel 7N400-L1). Can't find any reviews on the GA-7N400E, but noticed that it has a 3 phase power supply. Opinions? Cheers!

    Considering m/b for 2400+, KT600 or nForce2-400?

Need some opinion on the best single channel m/b for the 2400+. Considering the Asus A7N8X-X, Asus A7V600-KT600, Giga-Byte 7VT600-KT600, the Giga-Byte GA-7N400E (NForce) and a few other similarly priced boards. I want something with a little overclocking potential... if possible with a PCI lock...

VIA C3 Processor: GOOD or BAD?

VIA C3 Processor: GOOD or BAD?

It's ok for its intended usage. It won't win any speed contests, but then again, it was never designed to. I personally wouldn't go below the 1GHz version though.

Best 17" CRT On the planet?

I have a LG Flatron F700B which I like. Nice 0.24 stripe pitch. Both the LG Flatron F700P and Philips 107P are pretty good. The Samsungs 765MB seems like a good choice too. Cheers

maddog preditor 5.1 and 4.1 sound cards

I think that card uses a C-media 8738 chip. If you want, you can try installing the C-media 9739/9739 drivers as mentioned by me on the 3D Sound Surge forums here. To install these drivers, you will need to do a .inf modification to get the drivers to recognise the 8738 . The instructions for...

Acoustic Edge + WinXP = Bad?

QSounds QMSS will only expand sources for analog speakers. It will not work on digital (SPDIF) speaker systems. You will only get 2 channel sound with these speakers, 5.1 channels will be used for DVD's and other files encoded with AC3 or DTS etc... Cheers

Acoustic Edge + WinXP = Bad?

Almost all soundcards will not output 5.1 channel digital sound, unless the file is specifically encoded (like DVD's) - nForce is the only one I know of that has a built in encoder (although C-Media is planning a similar solution). If you want to get multi-channel sound from all sources easily...

New Nvidia Detonator Drivers Released Today! BAD?

I tried the 45.23 (Win 98SE) on my Geforce 4 Ti 4200. Compared to the last official drivers, 3D Mark 2001 results went down from over 10500 right down to 9800. I uninstalled the drivers then ran the "Detonator Destroyer" utility. Both times, the cards were overclocked to the same level using...

    DO SOUND CARDS MATTER?

It really depends what you mainly use your soundcard for. If it's only for general purposes, then almost any soundcard will do.... even AC97. However, if you want more FEATURES, such as EAX Advanced HD, QSounds QMSS (QSound Multi-Speaker System), extra I/O's, etc... then it may be worthwhile to...

Looking for cheap but good sounding soundcard

Hercules Fortissimo III is reasonable too, or if you want to go really cheap, you could pick up a card with the C-media 8738 chip. It's much better then the dirt cheap price may suggest. Supports EAX1, 2, A3D 1 via the Sensaura 3D API. I **think** it's full duplex, though not 100% sure. With...

Has anyone tried Dachshund software "Hare" Windows accelerator?

Yeah, I'm abit sceptical of that 88-bit kernel. Anyway I downloaded it to try it. So far it seems to be stable but cant say that I've noticed a real performance difference. A couple of programs like Photoshop and PhotoExpress **seem** to load faster, but it's hard to know if I'm just a victim of...

Which sound cards is the best for dvd's, games, and music?

I have none of those listed... In my main computers I have a Philips Acoustic Edge, Philips Seismic Edge 5.1, Aztech PCI368DSP (Philips/QSound ThunderBird 128) and Philips Sonic Edge 5.1. Sound card won't install

Try downloading the latest driver for the C-media 8738 chip from the Windows Update site, then place your card in another PCI slot and select "Reset Data Configuration" or "Update ESCD" in the BIOS. This should make Windows re-recognise the card. If this fails to work then I'd suggest a clean...

Question on RAM: 512MB vs 2x256MB

When I bought another stick of 256MB PC2100 for my Shuttle AK31 3.1, I had to raise some of the latency settings, namely the Command Rate CMD, which did reduce performance somewhat. Also had to lower the FSB slightly from 150 to 147MHz for the system to remain stable. Cheers
