I would like to know this as well. How long until it’s actually available, or do I actually have to buy a DDR4 motherboard and RAM?
It’s annoying seeing that DELL and probably others are selling computers with DDR5.
Yeah, I basically have a new computer ready to go except the RAM. Ironically, I think there was DDR5 available when I first started looking, but I didn't buy any because I was waiting to see the availability of the Alderlake CPUs. I didn't realize there would be such a shortage of DDR5 RAM.
Apparently, it is due to a supply shortage of the chip that controls power management.
DDR5 memory is in shortage due to the PMIC being in short supply (techgenyz.com)
DDR5 already an actor in the global chip shortage play, though not for the role you'd expect - Neowin
Anyone know when DDR5 will actually be available to buy. It almost seems like nobody is manufacturing DDR5. I'm assuming RAM manufacturers can't use the same equipment to make DDR5 as DDR4, otherwise I'm not sure why they wouldn't be increasing DDR5 production with the premium they would get.
Well, I bought it anyways, and it actually plays quite well on my system. Forgive all my gloom and fretting. FPS is around 50 according to their game performance tool. It actually 'feels' more consistently smooth than I remember Assassin's Creed Unity. I'm only about 2 hours into to playing so...
I don't have evidence to back it up, but it seems like this will lose them more in sales than they would lose to people pirating the game. Not only that, but in the future people will be less likely to buy their game due to Ubisoft not being reliable. I waited to preorder because Ubisoft puts...
I see it as people struggling to pay bills, and trump gave them something to blame, and belief that he can change that. Heh, time will tell how that works out lol.
Didn't HoloLens use an atom CPU? Interesting to see if the first released version has core, or Arm processor. Did they just cancel Broxton, but not the next version of Atom?
I think it also has to do with PCs not inspiring a strong emotional need/want to upgrade. My parents just spent $3000 on a new tv to replace the 10 year old one, but are still seemingly happy with their core 2 duo pc. They definitely could afford it, but they see it as still functional, so...
Admittedly, I am a lay person, but won't the Cannonlake CPU core size shrink by half. Is it so far fetched they might make a 6-core that would still take up less space than a 4-core on 14nm. The igpu mainly needs to be big enough to be competent at driving 4k monitors. If Intel went crazy...
I think Continuum is actually rather forward looking. I don't see it as very amazing now, but I think that type of usage will grow over the next 5 years or more. Unless I'm missing something computers will continue to become smaller, and use less power.
No way DX12 will come to windows 7 or 8.
Depending on how many gamers upgrade their OS to Win10 within the next year, there may already be games that require DX12 and won't run on win7 by holiday 2016. I know EA's DICE had expressed interest in this, but obviously only if the very large...
Since the RTM, I've had all games run great on windows 10. Occassionally, I would get crashes during the technical preview, but they've gone away since the RTM.
Don't think I've seen it mentioned in this thread yet, but it was kind of cool to see Intel advance the feature level support of their igpu so much. It was amusing to me to see Intel have DX feature level 12.1 support, and that it had more feature support than amd and NVidia for the moment.
The desktop refreshes with few to no LGA for broadwell and cannonlake were planned a while ago I think, or at least there were rumors. Only one I could find after a bit of searching was this:

Sounded interesting when I thought the cpu alone was running doom 3, but not nearly as cool when you find out it was using a radeon 6970. Here is a youtube video from Elbrus giving some info written in English, and showing it running doom:

Wow, so much controversy over NVidia Hairworks, when NVidia doesn't even recommend using it with their own cards unless you have a 980. Not arguing for or against gameworks, but this whole Witcher 3 gameworks controversy seems kind of ridiculous.
Microsoft didn't abandon ARM. OEMs can still make an ARM based tablet. It's just that pretty much all the manufacturer's, and Microsoft decided Atom allowed them to make a more competitive product for whatever reason.

Here is an article with a better description. 240 threads not cores. 30 tiles with 2 pairs of cores each, and each core has four way hyper threading.
In Windows 10 the metro apps function just like desktop apps, although you can still use them like the win 8 version still if you wish. Is it possible the oems are just not buying any extra chips because they don't want to have many extra haswell or broadwell chips after skylake is released? I...
My understanding is windows 10 is a slight change in business model of windows for consumers. Windows 10 is the "last" version of windows. From this point onward, you buy windows once, and it is automatically kept up to date for the life of the device at no more cost.
Can't wait to play some well done DX12 games.
I think this was sarcasm in reference to comments made in the past. Brad Wardell made reference to it in some interview I heard.
I don't know about the morph core, but the rumor about the OEMs wanting all the different types of skylake to ship at the same time does suggest that there might be something special about skylake.
zlatan any idea when Microsoft will release more information? Will we finally get to learn about everything next week with GDC? Supposedly some really cool stuff will be demonstrated.
It would be awesome if it was a new method of input that could be programmed to recognize specific brain patterns. No more controller/keyboard/mouse for gaming. :P
In the past several years since I started gaming, it seems like the focus has always been on how powerful is your GPU. For the most part, you either had an adequate cpu or you didn't. This has been my perception. Is it possible that games coded with DX12 in mind will begin to scale with how...
