Does a Mobo or CPU die SLOWLY?

if you've "pushed" the system before, it's very possible for a setup to die over time... just a month ago my P3 700 and Abit SA6R running for a year at 1Gig+ then down to 933...you get the point finally died to the point where neither piece is useable anymore...

Lapping Retail P4 HSF

hm... the retail sink bends the board? interesting... i just applied artic silver to my 2.4b today and replaced the HSF... the retail locking mechanism is so easy to use it doesn't even feel like it's applying enough pressure at all...the board seems fine, although i suppose anyway you look at...

Voodoo3 3000 WinXP Driver - Urgent

Thing is, windows XP does a decent job of letting you play with drivers because the roll back and driver un-install isn't all that bad... so you can figit and try whats out there... i'd stay with one of the 3 most current sets because they are usually better. If anything you can always go with...

haha, i was just at the Undercover Brother page and they have this cheesy famicom type racing game where you have to drive undercover brother's cadillac to hisgirls house without spilling all the soda... haha frigi hilarios... danr car handles like soap on ice though...

Any programs that let me visually see my hard drive space?

Theres a small program called "Easycleaner" that finds and gives you options to delet/save/log etc un-used files and such such as AIM/ICQ temp log files... it also shows has other drive options and if i remember correctly will display quite a bit of hard drive usage information including pie...

Tips on cleaning my flatscreen CRT? How about my laptop screen?

i clean my monitors with soft clothes, like eye-glass cleaning clothes... and when they get more gunky i use warm/slighty soapy water to wash then dry with the aforementioned clothe... works very well

Macs and Divx movies...

got a powerbook G3 500... the new DivX 5.0 for mac is pretty good and they got rid of the AIM bug which i like cause now i can actually use it, but i find that it still doesn't play quite a few of my *.avi files that run fine on my windows machine... It's great that there is finally official...

Is Physics Useless?

If you wanna go hardcore... look up into heat and mass transfer (fin analysis) and basic fluid flow dynamics... with some basic equations you can model your case and system as a simple system and you can calculate the effectivesness of your case and fans... hehe

So what's the best Hard Drive today?

i have no experience with this line of drives (waiting for next upgrade to buy one), but the new Western Digital Special Edition Drives with 8mb cache are supposed to be the fastest IDE drives to date...

Viewsonic e773...any good????, almost free for me...

yes it's a great monitor... the dot pitch is great and the color is very crisp... my only issue is that it is kinda dark even with the brightness and contrast up high...

Just bought a monitor...

it's your choice but i'd probably go back and exchange it back for what you intended to get... as for the lines, these are integral parts of th mointor hardware as they make the "flatness" of he screen possible and is used on all the Sony style trinitron flat CRT's

how viable is the aureal vortex2?

i agree, poor aureal =( i had to get an Audigy when is witched to XP, just not enough support to justify it's awesomeness, but my xitel storm platinum has a happy home in a win98 gaming box... hehe

please specify what you mean by "can't play" ... is it crashing out of the game after loading? is it not evening loading the game? is it hanging while trying?... a bit more detail to your problem will aid in helping you solve it

Why don't you try uninstalling your vid card and re-installing... this may reset the settings and re-enable full function of your video settings...

Duron 900MHz highest core voltage/temp? Drivers for Vortex2 with WinXP?

your pretty S.O.L. dude... sorry to say... i had a Xitel Platinum Vortex 2 card a while back and used it in winXP for about a week before i went and got a new SB Audigy... the native drivers suck because they don't let you use any of the features of the card... it basically turns your awesome...

voodoo 5 drivers for XP?

go to voodoofiles.com, they have LOTS of drivers... i'm using the 1.0.8 or whatever set, i tried to get the exact name but voodofiles.com isnt loading for me right now... i like this set becausse it enables you to still use 3dfx tools which without really hinders the cards capabilities...

How's the Voodoo5 in Win2K?

My V5 AGP is running just as good in win XP as it did in win 98 SE... i'm sure it would run the same in win 2K as well, still a GREAT video card, specially if you like crisp anti-aliasing :)

Laptop help - Dell 8200 or New Gateway 600XL

this won't be as helpful as the above, specially since i have no experiecnec with Gateway, but i work as a tech support type guy here at school and we have almost ALL Dell systems. I have yet to not be able to find drivers and support off their website and all in all they make a very good...

how to do a drive copy without reinstalling windows?

if what you mean is to move your entire install from old disk to new, i'd go buy a copy of norton ghost, for the money the most sueful product for back up and hard disk moving... it will literally mirror your old drive to your new drive so you can boot the new and it will fire up like you never...

taking a vote on "why?"

are you getting full-on shutdowns or restarts? cause i was getting random restarting a few days ago and after scandisk and defrag of both HD's the problem went away, seemed like a problem with a certain disk sector... maybe worth a try if nothing else seems to be working...

Old background flashes at startup and shutdown?

if your old one was set by right-clicking and "set as wallpaper" in IE, chances are you have a file called "Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp" in your windows folder... find it and delete... and it should go away~!

If you have a Dell P1130 21" Monitor please post opinions here.

I have one, love it to death... it's 21" it's black, it's FLAT~, it's crisp, it's got dual VGA inputs... hehe, this was an upgrade to an older Sony Multiscan 20SE that was 20" and it is MUCH better... i am very happy with my P1130.

Mac OS X vs. Windows XP

i use both... OS X is aiite,... but i can't stand 1-mouse button (i know you can plug in a usb with more, but i'm making an opinino on default settings) ... and it is kinda slow... the most annoying thing for me is the "finder" window, i much prefer windows explorer... as for XP, i like it a...

Which brand of Geforce 3 ti200 should I get??

not upgrading for awhile myself, but if i was to get one right now i'd go Leadtek, the 2D filter looks to perform very well and for my usage i like having crisp 2D & 3d performance...

help 3rd (middle) mouse button for winXP?

hm... well like i said, i have MS mice, optical explorer trackball and just optical explorer both with 5 buttons... but the MS software doesn't have the option of making a button the old skool "middle button" as for the serial mouse, it's the only one i have on hand that is a true 3 button mouse...

has anyone seen corrupt data on cpu running over 933

if by 933 you mean an insanely high overclock from something like a default 550, then yes, it can happen... i've on at least 2 occasions suffered weird HD anomalies due to insane overclocking...

Dragon Orb 3 - Mebbe stupid Q but gotta ask it...

Can't be sure, but i suppose it can't be worse than those all copper designs. I just helped a friend build a computer last weekend with a Dragon Orb and it's been running non-stop since Sat (5-days) with no problems... the clip itself was pretty tight too so i'm sure it will hold just fine.

Sisioft Sandra has the option i believe, go to vid properties and check all the info that it shows, there is info for monitor & vid adapter... i believe it also shows in the mainboard info module...

How often do you back up your HD (ghost) ???
