The Ryzen "ThreadRipper"... 16 cores of awesome

Which took the pics from reddit, where one guy (callingthewolf) actually has the CPU and ran the benches. That is 4.1Ghz OC on TR with shitty 3066mhz ram (8 slots populated though) with even shittier timings. Its legit.

    Intel Skylake / Kaby Lake

Its pretty obvious to everyone with at least couple of brain cells that TR forced Intel to bring HCC dies to HEDT platform. They have NEVER done that before. Heck sometimes they haven't even enabled the whole LCC die on HEDT platform like SB-E, which had 8 cores but even the 3970X refresh only...

    [Hardware Unboxed] R7 1700 @4Ghz + 3200Mhz RAm = ~7820X @4.5Ghz

You can do it with good custom loop and delid with LM, if you don't need to apply too much voltage. And its "only" 8 cores.

    [Hardware Unboxed] R7 1700 @4Ghz + 3200Mhz RAm = ~7820X @4.5Ghz

Crumpet would you be willing to run 3dmark API draw call test with that 3600mhz CL16 and 4ghz? I wanna see what kind of difference it makes compared to 3466mhz CL14 and tightened subs.

[Techspot] AMD Ryzen 5 1600 vs. Intel Core i7-7800X: 30 Game Battle! [Links Fixed - Updated]

This is so goddamn funny when people are saying that these reviews are flawed and Skylake X should be this and that much faster than Ryzen and then these guru's link to reviews where Ryzen is running with memory from 2133 to 2666mhz with NO INFO about what the timings were. And of course Skylake...

The Ryzen "ThreadRipper"... 16 cores of awesome

Its partly because of the TIM used there but also because these chips are getting denser which means more hotspots and that is just harder to cool. Everybody who has done even a little bit of extreme oc knows that there is a point when it doesn't matter if you have custom loop with water at...

    Ryzen: Strictly technical

Yeah actually they should be faster because all the tested games are highly multi-threaded. Oh, well, it still shows that there is a penalty on having dependent threads on two different CCX.
  9. O

    Ryzen: Strictly technical

Yeah it shows that 4 is better than 2+2 as a thought but doesn't tell why 4+4 and 3+3 is so much faster.

    Ryzen: Strictly technical

Kroomatikse, can you link one of those tests because I can only find tests with "4 core" ryzen vs 7700 but not against 8 core ryzen

    Ryzen: Strictly technical

Why nobody hasn't tested games with one CCX completely disabled vs both enabled at the same frequency to see how big the latency penalty is? Or is not possible to disable CCX completely with current BIOS available from mobo makers?

So you're saying you need it for OGL?, last I tried, SSAA did work in OGL apps when forced through control panel. Though I have to say that Nvidia has better SSAA support overall.

    DOOM updated with Vulkan support

I tried to test the increase we get from only Async Compute as we know that the path only works with TSAA and no AA. First I checked my fps with no AA enabled in OGL, then with FXAA. Then I switched to Vulkan and redid the tests. No AA and FXAA (which disables async path). I also took the...

    DOOM updated with Vulkan support

I had the same experience on Fury X, lighter areas showed 40-50% increase but areas where my fps dipped to 40 or so with OpenGL, I saw 75fps with Vulkan. Feels like somebody just installed new graphics card to my computer without me noticing :D Some examples: 3930K @ 4.7Ghz, 16gb 2133mhz DDR3...

AMD Polaris Thread: Radeon RX 480, RX 470 & RX 460 launching June 29th

TBP = TDP o_O 290w is the right number if we look at TDP. It can be even proven pretty easily by opening reference bios and checking the powertune table.

    NVIDIA Pascal Thread

Yes but that 2x p/w could mean it was measured over Fiji and Raja's 2.5x p/w over Tonga for example. We don't really know. Also who are you referring to with that lead engineer statement... because I'm pretty sure the guy who actually said that wasn't the lead engineer developing Fiji chips.

    NVIDIA Pascal Thread

So why people were talking about 7970 being a paper launch when it was announced on December 22, 2011 and it was in stores on January 9, 2012. That's three weeks. And I don't know about the rest of the world but I got 2 of them at launch day. Soo, maybe this what we call double standards...

[Videocardz] AMD Polaris 11 SKU spotted, has 16 Compute Units

If I read that paper correctly, AMD is really trying to make those SP's behave like SMT and add Turbo Boost state when they are being underutilized  Now let's see if they can actually implement this and is it going to be in Polaris / Vega.

Soo, this is the first time ever when they did not reveal new generation Geforce at GTC. I guess we can be pretty sure we will not see any new consumer GPU's before computex.

Rise of the Tomb Raider DX12 Performance Benchmarks

Did some testing with Fury X and yep, what a nice DX12 patch. I lost around 7fps in soviet installation and it stutters when running in dx12. I can even hear the stutter because my card has some slight coil whine and it stops whining every time the game stutters. That is with everything maxed...

@crisium: Don't forget that Polaris paper launches in fall because AMD used all their money on that Polaris chip which they demoed two months ago @CES so they can't produce more. They also have to wait for hynix to produce HBM2 chips for reasons only known by few on this board. Sooo... where...

The GPU Vendor Bias Admission Thread

Hmm, I voted unbiased even though I know that my posting habit most likely looks like that I'm biased towards AMD.
