    4th gen i54440 vs 4th gen i74770

B85 vs. Z87, k vs. non-k, stock cooler vs. basic aftermarket cooler, warranty vs. none vs. overclock protection . All this can easily cost $50-80 which buys better graphics card, SSD vs. only HDD, beer etc.

is there Any alternative Processor makers except Intel and AMD?

You're confusing the purpose of trade secrets with that of patents. Before release, most product research can survive in trade secret form. After release, there is a chance of reverse engineering, so patent might be the easier way out.

    Fans For CPU Cooler

See http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/140mm-fan-roundup.html and http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coolers/display/140mm-fan-roundup-2.html. It may not contain the fans you are considering, but it at least shows that manufacturer claimed CFM and static pressure are completely...

Cpu (heatpipe) heatsink orientation with die affect cooling?

Your question was about ivy/haswell, but this uses sandy bridge processor. Like I said, ivy/haswell CPU cooler reviews are rare - most use sandy. Sandy had reasonable material between die and heat spreader, unlike ivy /haswell.

Cpu (heatpipe) heatsink orientation with die affect cooling?

Easy to say no (or yes), but it is an important question and needs answer. Along with the small die, low conductivity material between die and heat spreader could very likely have changed the dynamics of CPU cooling. Surprisingly, and unfortunately many cooler reviews are using sandy bridge...

    Behold My Antec Surgery!!!

People take risks. If they make mistakes they pay the price. There are many more risky things being discussed in these forums and others. Open your eyes and save the world. ...

    Behold My Antec Surgery!!!

Exactly. I don't see you jumping around in overclocking threads cautioning people about the dangers. Delidding can be an even worse idea, but you say "if you have to ..." in spite of overclocking benefits being not too great. Why the kindness towards PSU modifications? People take risks. If...

    Behold My Antec Surgery!!!

I know, that is what I am saying. This EVGA motherboard doesn't even allow "risky" things like overclocking. Obviously better than a "low performance" 3770k, right? It costs a zillion times, but at least it is not "risky". BTW eating food is risky, better stay hungry. Oops, that is risky too...

    Behold My Antec Surgery!!!

People have choked badly on food. You must be fun at parties around people having food. Overclocking has not been helped greatly in most delidding scenarios. Especially on haswell. And, (gasp), people do risky things :o, like eating food and delidding processors even when nobody else has done...

Why 1080p+ monitors are still so rare? Where are the "retina" monitors?

Reading the full post before replying is hard or advanced? " "Where are" could also mean, and I would rather ask, "where are the people buying millions of 1920x1080 22" and 24" TVs", that such panels then overflow to computer monitors, even though this is not an great resolution for...

    Behold My Antec Surgery!!!

How come you didn't post such warnings in haswelll / ivy bridge processor delidding threads ? Come to think of it, might give you a heart attack.

Why 1080p+ monitors are still so rare? Where are the "retina" monitors?

If you have to use Google to find them, obviously they are not popular enough to explain the huge overabundance of 24" and 22" 1080p monitors. Same panels being used for TVs and monitors is NOT the explanation we are looking for here. "Where are" could also mean, and I would rather ask, "where...

Why 1080p+ monitors are still so rare? Where are the "retina" monitors?

In addition to what is already posted here, you can blame Microsoft for it. As usual. Windows upto XP doesn't work well with very high resolution even if high DPI fonts are used. 7 and above can be made to run well with high resolution, but need manual intervention. Old programs written for...

    Behold My Antec Surgery!!!

I don't understand the warnings of dire consequences should the OP ever need to attach more components off the amputated PSU. The surgery seems completely reversible to me. With somewhat more skill than required for the original amputation, some insulating tape, (solder for the purists), one...

    NAS RAID question

In addition to what IndyColtsFan says, see raid write hole ( https://blogs.oracle.com/bonwick/entry/raid_z). Unless you have redundant power supplies, accident proof household, no power failures, rodents etc. you are vulnerable to the hole. FREENAS solves the problems, both of raid write hole...

    Partitioning a SSD

Needless partition phobia here. Partitions won't affect the wear-levelling algorithm of the SSD controller. Partitioning wouldn't affect endurance at all. The advice to keep some space on SSDs free holds across partitions. I.e. even if one partition is perpetually full, if other partitions...

AT article on Haswell memory scaling

Yes, I too think the conclusion was wrong. They show prices difference between 1600 and 1866 MHz to be substantial. They also say that always prefer high amount of RAM (an oversimplification) over speed. And, like you say, performance difference between 1600 and 1866 is nothing to write home...

%!@! - why only one USB 3 internal header?

For an honest effort at providing lots of USB 3.0 ports, motherboard manufacturers would have to reserve maximum amount of USB 3.0 bandwidth for each port. At the expense of SATA ports, or PCI express slots. To increase USB 3.0 ports by 6, remember that 5 SATA 3.0 6 Gbps ports will be reduced...

Thoughts on modern cases and size

    1. Read the recent article about the price we pay for mobility - desktop vs laptop( http://www.anandtech.com/show/7287/analyzing-the-price-of-mobility-desktops-vs-laptops) . The price turned out to be negligible for non gaming, and tolerable for gaming if you are really concerned with space...
