Defragging Troubles..

I had a similar problem and it was bad memory in the computer. My computer was new so they swapped the memory for some better stuff. Have you flashed your bios? Doing so may fix the problem, but maybe not though, having done so might cause the problem as well.

AMD 900Mhz Temperature

AMD 900Mhz Temperature

That's about the idle temp for my 1G Athlon. If it is stable I wouldn't worry about it. The bios reading is not very accurate.

System locks up after 1 hour of use

i had a similar lockup with mine... exactly the same i was using an asus a7pro mombo... downloading and flashing the bios fixed all these lockups... i'd visit the website and flash the bios with the most recent version (be sure to follow the directions) if I was you might be memory too...

Is 5400RPM HD Much Much Slower Than 7200RPM Ones?

7200 RPM can increase system speed that much?

I upgraded from a quantum (5400 512k) cx to a seagate barricuda ii (7200 2m) and I notice a big difference... much more than I expected... load times seem about 30-40% faster some drives work better with some operating systems: ie quantum are supposed to be slow in win 98 tom's has a good...

how can you tell good ram chips from bad?

If the prices are similar to Australia, the best deal here at the moment is Kingmax Cas 2 PC133 ($122Aus for 128mb). Shouldn't have any problems with it and will give you top performance.

MSI K7Tpro2A Stable at last! But Still Not Happy...

if you are buying the A7pro make sure to flash the latest A7pro bios right away... it comes with a generic A7V bios on it for some reason, probably cause the boards are almost identical... mine used to lock up till I did that... no lockups at all now and it is 100% stable

yeah I use the hercules 6.35 drivers like the guy above... I've tried alot of them and none of the betas gave me more than an extra frame here or there... +40 3dmarks was all the difference... might as well stick to ones that you know go with the card in alot of cases

3DMark2000 score- Is this any good?

Help-I'm Upgrading

I'd get myself a new case with a 300W power supply. One with a fan blowing in the front and a fan in the back blowing air out (an extra fan besides the power supply fan). One that is about 70-80 bucks and I have heard recommended by others is Inwin IW-Q500N w/300W PS. Go with AMD. That way...

I'd get a Hercules card. Everyone I have heard of who owns one is happy with it. Mine is rock stable! What is $10 anyways? Just a couple of meals at MacDonalds. Its only $10! Some people act like it is hundreds. If you can't find one the Leadtek card would probably be just fine.

Help With Building A New System

go the safe route and get the IDE hard drive from IBM... IBM Deskstar 75GXP, ATA 100, 7200rpm, 2M buffer. The 30G is good value. Can't go wrong. SCSI is very expensive and not really worth it unless you have more than one hard drive going.

Yeah my old Athlon 500 TNT2 got like 1200 in the normal setting. 2400 with the AMD optimizations turned on.

Hard Drive Cooling

If you leave your computer on all the time and you have 2 HD or more then I'd suggest getting the cooling. If you only have one HD why bother. If your computer is not on all the time why bother. I'd put a $10 fan in the front of my case first though.

A stupid Problem I'm having

Sounds like the little pins from the on/off switch (the ones that connect the stuff at the front of the case and whatnot to the mombo) are on incorrectly go back to your book and give them a 3 over. They may even be just put on backwards. Its easy enough to do. that is my guess

hercules the better memory makes a big difference I oc to 200/210 no fan! I wonder what it will do if I add one? leadtek is ok too from what i've read, but I have had excellent results with my herc mx... some people are pushing them to unbelievable levels

yeah get the faster hard drive... spend your 80 bucks there instead of the 1.1G... get the 75GXP IBM Deskstar U-100 2M 7200 (comes in any size you want) as they are quiet and reliable and fast... that is where you really notice the extra dollars I might go towards the ATI card as they are...

IF they are within 20 bucks of one another get the Hercules Geforce2 MX with dual head. It will do ya good for work or games. The better memory on they Hercules is awesome. Mine overclocks fantastic with no fan. I am really happy with mine.
