win7 explorer.exe crashes on start up-- infinite loop!

literally... all of a sudden explorer.exe started crashing on me in win7. Every time i reboot I get this issue and the computer is unusable. it goes into an infinite loop doing this. sometimes I get a message saying "error hresult e_fail " this morning I started to see new messages...

browser can't connect but I can still ping?

problem came back tonight. not sure why. i tried repairing the connection and nothing happened. i dug into the network properties and found some test on the intel card i was able to do. it passed all tests except one. it said no wins server was installed. no idea what that means. a reboot...

slow download speeds on wifi

update: after hours of googling on intel 5100 I found a post that said to turn off afterburner in my router config. i did this and i can now get 8MPS down and 4Mbps up. good enough for now. it should be almost double that speed but i'll take 8M over 1M for right now. i'm sure there are...

slow download speeds on wifi

i stopped the download and it only improved it by a little. i should be getting 11Mbps minimum. i was testing this using speakeasy, that's how i know the speeds are slow.

just got a new asus u81a laptop and the download speeds are super slow. less than 1mbps and meanwhile the upload speed is double that. windows says that i'm connected at 54mbps to the router. other laptops on the network work great... 11mbps down. granted this is a new computer and vista...

it's been a week since i've had this issue. I reinstalled video card drivers last weekend and it's been good since. That connection seems bogus to me though. I do remember that when the web browser could not connect to the web, I also could not connect to my router when I typed in the 192.168...

I did do that. i typed in the 192.168 number into the browser and couldn't connect. that's what i meant by "i couldn't connect to the router". but my laptop will connect to the router when i type that in.

I had a recent problem where FF/chrome (on my desktop) won't connect to the internet but I can still ping to outside websites, the network connectivity still says 100mbps, and I can't connect to the router. All other computers work fine. I ran malwarebytes and avira and nothing was picked...

when i was referring to HD video I was referring more along the lines of mkv and mp4. do i still need the cyberlink decoders? I'm using a samsung 215tw lcd.

I've tried #1, not 2. i'm actually doing my IT dept's work right now... I could go rogue and just hook up the LCD to another computer lying around.

tried swapping the connections on the adapter. no difference. also downloaded the nvidia drivers from dell's site. I saw no difference in which monitor was primary.

I've got a nvidia quadro pci-e NVS 280. the computer is a dell. it came with a 1:2 DVI adapter, so each lcd is connected on the same port via DVI. There really is no cable swapping but I guess I can fiddle with it.

2nd monitor won't display at native resolution

I'm running a dell 2007wfp and a 2009wt (2nd) LCDs. the first works fine at it's native 1680 x 1050. the 2nd only wants to work at a max 1440 x900, which is not it's native resolution (1680 is). I've tried installing newer nvidia drivers as well as updating nvidia drivers from the windows...

sata to usb cable question

I waiting on the arrival of a WD 750GB sata 3mbps hdd. I want to connect via sata to usb but all the sata 2 usb cables I've seen on newegg all state 1.5Mpbs max transfer speed. is it still compatable (but slower)?

how many times can you refill toner cartridge?

i have 2 samsung ML 1740 refillable printers. I've refilled each a few times without issues. One of them is now not printing as well... even after I refill it. Does the cartridge need to be cleaned or conditioned or is it just going bad and I now need a new one?

router setting questions

the IP of the router is actually 0.2 not 0.1. should I change it so that it's 0.1? apparently it does work but will I run into problems in the future? or is it simply just a number and I could renumber it to anything I like, such as 123.456.789.1?

recommendations on small profile router

odd. now primary ide master will detect but slave doesn't. it still allows me to boot into windows though. and what I said earlier about setting the jumper to master being the key for the primary hdd... somehow it works with cable select as well. I've tried setting the second hdd as slave...

i think it was 2 issues. the windows booting up seems to be resolved. I also just updated the bios. i think i'm having success with booting up so far. I guess i'll just keep rebooting until i get an error.
