Upgrade to X2 4400+

Thanks for the replies so far. I might be overclock, it really depends how the temps are. I keep my case on the floor and the ventilation from the back is quite low. I was thinking about the Antec P180 case. In terms of use, i do some 3D stuff and encoding now and again.

Upgrade to X2 4400+

I'm currently running a P4 2.53GHz. I'm looking at upgrading to an Athlon X2 4400+ in July. Would you say they are worth it? Obviously, my upgrade is justified with my current system being pretty dated, but should I upgrade to an X2 or normal Athlon 64? Last time around I went generic...

I'll take one stick back to the shop and get another Matching Pair. I bought both from the same place. One stick a year ago and the other 4 months ago. They said they would replace it though!

I had this problem problem a few years ago. I can't remember exactly how I fixed it but I do know it didn't do it if I disconnected the CD-ROM. Sorry I know thats not much help!

Right, I gave each RAM card a weeks test each and BOTH were fine. I put them both back in together and it Blue screened the same day! I've now put the cards in Ram Slots 1 and 3. Do you think its safe to say that its actually RAM slot 2 on the mobo thats causing the bluescreen?

Well almost 3 days and no Blue Screen. Do you think its safe to say its the RAM i took out? Maybe it wasn't seated correctly? I have the chance to get the place I got the RAM months ago to replace it, do you think I should do that or wait a few more days?

Which GFX card?

I take it Radeon cards don't suffer from that crappy 2D text blur problem I have on my Geforce 3? My budget is $200. I can get a Hercules Radeon 9600 PRO for that, is that a good price? Are Hercules cards the best for the Radeons?

It has also rebooted without using WinDVD, sometimes just sitting doing nothing and it still reboots.

nah no blue screens here. Not intalled anything as of late. Now i've turned that option off if it still restarts then i'll give a new PSU a go.

Well tried the memory thing and it was fine. Can't be MSBlast Worm as i'm behind a firewall and installed the fix before MS Blast became a problem. I've turned off Reboot on Error and so far no reboots. Btw, sometimes like 1 in 10 reboots the PC says "Windows has recovered from a serious error".

Random Reboots........

It only happened now and again but in the last week my PC seems to just restart itself out of nowhere 3-4 times a day. Some days it can go the whole way without rebooting. Whats it most likely to be? It doesn't lock up at all only reboots.

I think you'll find the Samsung and Planar are quite different in terms on specs. The Planar has 700:1 contrast and 300 brightness. I've got them running side by side and the Planar surely does beat my brothers 192T in all areas!
