Intel Allegedly Playing Dirty To Undercut AMD’s Ryzen

That's basically true, but it does become an antitrust issue when you're using a dominant market share to shut other players out. It wouldn't be the slightest bit surprising if true, it's nothing new for Intel and keeping their current market share and margins is well worth any plausible fine...

Is the GPU market doomed from a consumer point-of-view?

The original titan was a bit of a wake up call for nvidia I think - sales surprised everyone and really must have sparked discussion around just how much they could actually charge. Pricing atm is mainly due to AMD not having anything that competes with GP104/2 out yet - nvidia can and do tend...

We have a SSD attached to a GPU now.

You probably mean 4.5 GB/s, 4500GB/s would indeed be all kinds of awesome.

We have a SSD attached to a GPU now.

It probably won't be and Ryan comments on this in the article, but presumably you don't have as much storage there.

    New Pascal Titan X!

I really cannot understand how anyone though this naming was a good idea. They've struggled with titan names past the first (titan black?) but this is on another level. What's next, the new volta based nvidia gtx 1080, now x% faster than the geforce gtx 1080?

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

Shaders/various other names (CUDA cores for nv, stream processors for amd). ROPs are something different entirely.

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

It's because the GPUs are different "sizes", not a single unit - GPUs are among other things a very large array of vector arithmetic units. The size of this array varies by GPU and the number of cores is of course very important for overall performance (it's really clockspeed x cores that...

    New Pascal Titan X!

It's just release cycles not lining up for AMD, the same thing has happened a couple times in a row now and looks to again. The big chip comes out first as titan at an absurd price then knocked down to slightly less insane levels as a x80 ti to compete with whatever big chip AMD brings out...

(Discussion) Futuremark 3DMark Time Spy Directx 12 Benchmark

And yet we have this thread and much worse elsewhere with a significant number of people claiming things like pascal does preemption not async compute, that multiple render paths are now required despite the very titles being used as comparisons not doing that (should AotS or Doom have stuck...

(Discussion) Futuremark 3DMark Time Spy Directx 12 Benchmark

I really cannot imagine how frustrating it must be for FM at the moment to respond to this sort of completely uninformed ranting. Anandtech just published a really good pascal architecture summary, go read that at least first and realize how wrong most of these comments are. Facts just don't...

(Discussion) Futuremark 3DMark Time Spy Directx 12 Benchmark

I mean that's true but it's also pretty damning of every DX12 implementation so far as well isn't it? Who's doing distinct render paths for each architecture?

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

They're not at the founders edition MSRP either though in Aus, they're a good $100US higher or so. Typical Australia tax situation I think rather than directly related to the founders premium.

Third design flaw to hit the GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070

Because the fan issue is real but fixed and the 330mhz issue isn't a design flaw -it's the dual link dvi limit and overclocking is never guaranteed. The VIVE issue is pretty unfortunate if not fixable though.

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

Are you meaning to imply that AMD cards always pay for themselves via *coin mining but nvidia cards are completely useless for this? That might have been true with kepler and AMD does still have a notable lead in this area, but you're a little out of date here...

TPU: NVIDIA to Unveil GeForce GTX TITAN P at Gamescom

This is the right idea - the 780 ti and 980 ti only appeared when they needed to to derail AMD product launches. We'll see a titan card with insane pricing until AMD releases a competitive product, then a 1080 ti.

AMD's GPU Boost value is the MAX, Nvidia's GPU Boost value is the MIN

^ this is nvidia's definition. Granted you'll often see cards boost well above the advertised clocks with their last couple architectures - particularly with custom coolers - but it's by no means a guarentee.

    Who bought/is buying a Radeon RX 480?

I thought about it but the reference model looks bad. Will see what happens with partner cards, the 1060 and if 1070s drop from like $800AU (~$550US for a comparable no tax number...........).

Official AMD Polaris Review Thread: Radeon RX 480, RX 470, and RX 460

To be blunt there's still not really very many useful DX12 tests you could run. Ashes is probably the best implementation and that's hamstrung by being essentially a tech demo. The engine will turn up in future stardock titles but performance characteristics may be a bit different (it's really...

Official AMD Polaris Review Thread: Radeon RX 480, RX 470, and RX 460

It already is surely even though it doesn't beat a 980. Before the 1060 release (and depending on the pricing there anyway) there's really nothing else other than the 480 you could recommend under the 1070 atm other than second hand cards.

AMD Polaris Thread: Radeon RX 480, RX 470 & RX 460 launching June 29th

It's about where expected at 1080p (between 390 and 390X), but yeah after that it gets ugly fast.

AMD Polaris Thread: Radeon RX 480, RX 470 & RX 460 launching June 29th

I don't even know what to say to that - they deliberately made a crappy cooler just so it'd be easier to make something better? Are they *trying* to fail?

Who knows, but using GloFo probably saved them a pile of cash if that take or pay agreement is still in effect.

That's still going to be a solid upgrade from a 7970. This happens every AMD release lately - the usual suspects and AMD's marketing hype releases to hell and back and then when crazy expectations are inevitably missed everyone gets sad. It's a miss for sure at these numbers but it's still...

Yeah some big jumps but mostly pretty close at 1080p and lower at 1440p. Ouch, maybe Kyle wasn't just ranting? Should still sell a bunch given nvidia's pricing though, it's not a bad deal at all.

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

It's probably fine for a 1050. Some games will require settings compromises and more would be nice but that's life with mainstream/midrange cards.

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

Those prices seem too ridiculous to be credible, but we have GP104 selling out at $700 I guess so who knows.

AMD Polaris Thread: Radeon RX 480, RX 470 & RX 460 launching June 29th

Than a 980 reference sure - there could be a pretty big difference between maxwell reference and custom cards due to how well it clocked and the reference blower being at best adequate.

New system - get 1070 now?

Not sure there's going to be much pricing pressure on the 1070 until stock lasts more than 10 seconds, which so far hasn't really happened. If the 480 lands where expected performance wise that's unlikely to do it - it's better value sure, but not the same performance class at all.

Yeah... I actually like HardOCP and think they do a good job most of the time but have no idea what they're doing with awards, never made much sense to me. Even recently it's clear that they weren't happy with the FE mess but those cards got gold awards... sort of justifiable due to how far...

    [Rumor] RX 480 Overclocking 1500+Mhz

~10% isn't that bad - certainly don't think it's make or break. Some of the rumors have been pretty silly and it wouldn't be surprising at all if it's less than those. Completely unsubstantiated claims about overclocking are pretty normal these days though (JHH on the 1080 and "overclockers...

Wasn't there that postmortem their founder published that essentially said that yeah, mistakes were made on the actual game/budget due to how risky it was for them? [Guru3d] Radeon RX 470 Benchmarks

TDP is a cooler design spec not maximum power consumption and doesn't mean a lot. While yes all power used will be converted to heat that doesn't mean a 150W TDP card can't use much less if it was overspecced or much more when boosting if temps etc are all ok. Not bad performance from the...

Ok so the crysis 2 concrete barrier was hilariously wasteful - let's get that out of the way, agree completely. What does that have to do with gameworks? Was this an unrelated dumb decision/mistake or the result of something in particular from gameworks? If so, what?

AMD Polaris Thread: Radeon RX 480, RX 470 & RX 460 launching June 29th

There's so much misinformation and outright FUD about gameworks that it's really hard to get an idea of the impact. 99% of the nonsense appears to be about optional features that don't perform that well on either brand and can just be turned off (see: hairworks) or obviously unfinished games...
