I've had a PJ in a dedicated home theater room for over 5 years now.
Yes, the large screen is nice but there are several important downsides:
1. Sitting in a dark room. This gets annoying after a while (inviting people over for sports, etc)
2. Need lots of room. You need a good distance...
All Amazon links get converted to Anandtech referal links (look at the tag at end of the url when you visit Amazon via a link here). This site is making a commission off of anything we buy within 24 hours of visiting any amazon link in this forum. I'm not saying it's wrong; just stating facts.
I guess I'm a little behind the times but I just upgraded my vid card for the first time in years. Those four games above I played a ton, especially of Company of Heroes and TF2. I used to play Red Alert 2 a ton too.
I bought Bioshock Infinite the other day but found it boring. I tried BF3 but...
Here is a comparison of the two in the 240/250 gig category:

I have a home theater with a 100 inch screen, so I'm all about huge screens - even the 100 inch screen is starting to feel small to me for movies.
So I figured that a 27 inch 1080p monitor could not possibly be too big for me.
I was very wrong.
My eyes got fatigued quickly. It got annoying...
Ok, installed the SSD (Evo 250 gig). There is no way I am going back to a HDD. Lol at me. Loving this. There is on-paper discussions and then there is real world use.
The 240gb is quite a bit slower and not as well regarded from reviews I've seen.
Here is a comparison (you can click on the M500 to read the review):

I was debating the Evo and M500 but...
I checked. No burn spots or burnt wires. Just smoke from the psu.
One thing that may or may not be worth noting is that I connect the computer to a power strip to the wall outlet via a 2 prong cheater plug because my apartment only has outlets with two holes - no grounding.
But I've used...
A bit of a newbie here.
So I have a Dell Inspiron 620 with a Intel H61 MOBO. Has worked fine for last two years. Has 8g Ram and i5-2400 cpu.
I then get the itch to upgrade the GPU. So I buy a new PSU too (Corsair 600).
Steps I took on the install:
I remove the old PSU. Put in the new one...
Ok decided to get a Samsung 840 Evo 250G drive after watching some vids of people opening up programs using SSD. I think that's plenty of space for now without a HDD. I used to have a 1 TB HDD but barely filled up much on it - a couple of games (I only really play one or two at any given time)...
The cost savings in turning off a computer are negligible. A computer barely uses any power in sleep mode. Cue the philosophical dinosaur meme for spending $150 on a SSD to save $5 in electricity a year.
I rarely turn off desktop, so booting Windows is not something I do much.
Also I don't game much on a PC at the moment - mostly console right now.
I do use my desktop for work though but that is mostly word processing, some Photoshop/MS Paint, and general web browsing for research.
I have a...
