I am using Win2K with a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 40GB, Via 4in1 4.32 FINAL.
My main harddrive is detected as PIO Mode although the bios is set to autodetect. Win2K is set to autodetect it as well.
It's really confusing...
I know it has been using Ultra DMA before but all of a sudden its not...
I think the priority here should be to save up to buy a new computer first. A P166 will not be able to keep up with a 12x drive muchless a 16x. Also does the computer have a SCSI card in it. Without that the yamaha would be incompatible anyway.

Counter-Strike is the most played Multiplayer game on the internet. If you go online in Half-Life you will find like 2000 Half-Life servers and like 4000 CS servers!!!
It rocks!!
If all else fails, do a FULL Clean Install of Windows ME. That is: Reformat the HD and reinstall everything from scratch. That should fix your problem. Of course only do this is ALL ELSE FAILES!!! :)
If you buy from a retail store chances are that you will end up spending over 300 dollars extra on a system rather than purchasing parts over the internet. If I were you just order the parts online, select something like 2nd day shipping, and stay home and wait for them. Most delivery services...
NEVER let Windows manage your swapfile, it seems to increase its size only when you are doing something important and it slows your computer down to snail speed whilst doing it.
I would set the swapfile to 300 or 350 MB. But it depends on what you do with your computer. If you play around...
Nothing is free in this world!!!
But most of the time DVD Drives come with software or at least trial versions. DVD decoding software takes lots of time to develop like everything else so I'm sure that the companies that make them need to make a profit as well.
Besides, hardware DVD decoder...
My jumpers are set right, middle 2 vertically for slave but i still doesn't work...
UPDATE: I have successfully gotten the 2 drives to work together. Get this: DVD (Used to be master) is set to cable select on the slave connection, Burner is set to master.
This is the most "messed"...
My system consists of:
Abit KT7
1Ghz TBird
PC133 256 MB RAM
Afreey 10x DVD-ROM
Teac 12x10x32 CD-RW
SB Live! Value
Linksys 10/100 NIC
Win 2K/Win ME
I have the drive correctly installed as a slave to the DVD. The Bios detects it as slave but it doesn't show up in system properties or My...
1. DMA is enabled
2. I am not sure what that is.
3. No the DVD Plyer cannot show up more than one file in explorer, which has no name and is considered a winamp file.
4. No it is not a player related problem
<< I put the DVD into another computer and it worked beautifully >>
5. I don't know...
I have been trying to install a DVD-Rom Drive into a system now for 2 weeks. When I install it and boot up into Windows 98, I try to play a DVD and it just says that there isn't any Disc in drive (D:). I have played a DVD with that system across the network from another computer and it worked...
I have just noticed that all my icons in Windows 2K just began showing up in like 16 COLORS!!!
Oh God the UGLYNESS!!!
Does anyone know why this would strangely happen...
I haven't updated my display drivers, and I already checked the "Show Icons using all possible colors option"...
If you are going to be using Windows ME or 2000, try to save up and get PC133 256, but if you are on a tight bugdet get a stick of 128MB PC133, it will give you much better performance than the 256 of slower RAM can.
<< they're either busy with the 3dfx deal or they're working on nv20 >>
They are probably working on both... :)
Do you expect that nVidia should release a new D3 driver everyday. Infact, I think that the latest one 6.72 was released (or am... leaked) yesterday. There is only so much...
<< MacOS uses Co-operative multitasking, inferior to Pre-emptive, but it is still multitasking more or less.... >>
Here lies a definition of coopertaive multitasking:
Multitasking Explanation
The Mac OS has remained essentially the same since its original development, at least in terms of...
All of you have neglected to mention one fatal Mac flaw...
Macs, essentially, cannot run more than one program at a time. Their OS is not Multi-Tasking like PCs using Windows ME for instance. Yes, you can have more than one program open, but only one program is actually doing something at the...
Try this program, it is the True way to test your system, without having to search for Aliens or find Prime Numbers. :D
CPU Stability Test
You want to see how hot your CPU can get, choose the Heating Option...
Ideally, I believe for the Oc'ers Case, One 120mm in front sucking IN (If possible), if not then whatever can hold.
80mm in left side of case blowing IN on CPU.
80mm on top blowing Out.
Remember, the PSU sucks air out too so that has to be a factor in the amount of air coming in/out as well.
