Intel to cut cpus by 60%

Isn't it interesting how AMD used to sell processors with the best price/performance ratio. Since the dual cores have been out, Intel has been taking over the dual core value market. AMD needs to either lower prices or release some value dual cores since it looks like Intel is attacking at all...

Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 150 MCE $63.64 @ Amazon.com

It works just fine in Windows 2000 as well. Even though there is no remote in the MCE version, it is cheaper than the one including a remote.

Help - which notebook would you choose?

I think the Toshiba is the best of the bunch. Personally I'm not much of a fan of the Dell laptops. They seem a little flimsy to me. The Toshibas seem to be put together well and comfortable to type on. It's also the best deal of the bunch with what you're getting for the price.

Just was there and picked up a spool, seemed to be a bit better deal than the 100 Imation cdr's for $24 after rebate. After tax it's $19.34 - $10 rebate. So $9.34 isn't too bad. Just thought I'd share :-)

building cheap computer for someone. about $500 budget. celeron?

Great setup Sparks.. for $307, ya can't beat that.. did leave out shipping though so that's an extra $50 or so probably from newegg. Still a lot cheaper than the $500 price target.

P4 or Athlon?

Just go with an Athlon, more bang for the buck. When you're up around 1.x ghz, most games will run just fine with a decent video card. I believe the Athlon will have a longer upgrade path with current motherboards considering the Palamino will likely only require a bios update. Low level P4...

Great value when it's only around $10 and it's an above average hsf. Haven't had the vibrating problem with mine though.

So what's the concensus -- Pentium 4, suck or not suck?

Right now I think the P4 does suck. The performance boost is pretty much not there. For a workstation, a dual P3 would be better performing and less expensive if you wanted to go the Intel route. Going with AMD gives a great price for the performance. Basically with the P4, expensive...

P4 assessment links...I'm worried INTEL is getting away with it.

I just realized that with closeness of performance between the Pentium 3 and 4, basically not a 50% increase in performace with a 50% increase in clock speed, wouldn't a nice dual Pentium 3 be a much better alternative as a workstation? I looked at the Dell website to see what exactly they were...
