Mining is basically getting a high end AMD card and use it to mine electronic coins, you can then sell the coins for cash, if you know what you're doing you can get the amount you paid for your card in 2-4 months if you run it 24/7. That made AMD GPU prices skyrocket due to shortages.

Don't get the reference R9 290 CF if you are sensitive to noise. My top card throttles to ~700MHz from 947MHz because of temps, thats even with %70 fan (Too noisy). Bottom card does not throttle but needs ~%65 fan. Get the GTX780 SLI.

Why do you overclock?

Because its a free performance boost if you need it. BTW you can use less power than stock by overclock slightly and undervolting.

The Windforce coolers are beasts, I became a fan of it after having the GTX670 for a little over a year. Plus it usually costs the same price as the reference cooler.

Thats because some RAM have more than one XMP profile stored in them, maybe your motherboard is only seeing the first profile.

Gigabyte GTX660 OC (Windforce 2X) 63C@%60 fan speed (Barely hear it). Gigabyte GTX670 OC (Windforce 3X) 70C@%60 fan speed 1306MHz 1.212V (Barely hear it). AMD R9 290 (Reference) 94C@%70 fan speed (Too loud).

Use EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner and make a custom fan profile that runs the fan @ %100 above 85C. If it still 95C @ %100 fan then you have case airflow problems.

Either upgrade to an i5 or if you can't afford it go AMD (FX-6300). Just don't go i3, with two cores and newer AAA games requiring four threads I don't feel it will last as much as a quad core.

Are you sure that the power efficiency improvements will come because of the newer Cortex A15 revision rather than the HPm 28nm process which reduces the voltage at higher clockspeeds vs 28nm HPL therefore improving efficiency and performance??

Not interested since I already sit seven feets away from the display. At that distance I doubt I'll see a difference between 1080p and 4K on a 40 inch display.

Not much, its better to test it yourself. Install MSI Afterburner and enable the OSD when playing, make sure that VSync is disabled, if the GPU utilization drop below %95 or so then most likely you are getting bottlenecked.

I would go AMD FX rather than an i3, i5 if you can afford it. I recently did six budget gaming rigs for a friend, I went with AMD FX6350.
