AMD Freesync Monitors & Reviews Thread

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009742 Ah, you meant with the other connectors...yeah, since this is the only IPS one yet with these specs, it's kinda stuck.

[PCPER.com] Nvidia: We're not planning support for Freesync

You mean like HD-DVD? Sony and its proprietary Blu-Ray would beg to differ.

Is maxwell different enough for you? Please rate it if you own it: )

Higher performance with less heat to vent? Yes, I'm satisfied. Quite satisfied. Of course, I made a massive upgrade from a five-year-old rig, so anything would have been enormous, but I do like the low power draw.

    4K Monitors thread

Anyone have firsthand experience with the Acer one with G-Sync? I'm considering it as an alternative to the Swift, which I've had a problem with vertical striping that I'm not sure if is just a defect, or is more fundamental to the panel. If it is fundamental, I'll be looking for another...

    Acer 28" 4k monitor with G Sync $800 - preorder

Probably because G-Sync is here now, and A-Sync is not? There's also the assumption that A-Sync implementation will be equivalent in performance, one we have no way of knowing until A-Sync actually shows up in a functional form.

    Nvidia's MFAA demo (BF4)

I love how I make a post telling you your assessment was too simple, and your response is telling me I'm making it out to be too simple, and then tell me it's simple. This is not a simple blending, and using the term does not fully describe what is actually being used. Dictionary definitions...

Asus Gtx 780 Ti DirectCuII vs Gtx 980 reference - question.

If you can get a full refund on the 780Ti you should probably do it. 980 is faster for less money. Keep in mind you can always overclock the reference 980, and get better performance than an overclocked 780Ti. Overclocking headroom so far has been reported to be very high on the 980.

What will be AMD'S next Move?

Oh come on. In the past several months nearly every time someone comes with a "What GPU should I buy?" question and has any hint of an indication of wanting to be efficient with their budget, the forum recommended an AMD product. That may change with 970, but you can't deny that history. I...

    Nvidia's MFAA demo (BF4)

It's not even remotely close to that simple. Blending means you take pixel n-1, pixel n, calculate the average, and display as the new pixel n. That's not what they're doing.
  12. M

What will be AMD'S next Move?

There is a difference, though. Nvidia is outselling AMD nearly two to one. A weakness in one particular product is much less threatening to them as a result. Damage to Nvidia would bring parity - the same damage to AMD could bring complete failure.

    Acer 28" 4k monitor with G Sync $800 - preorder

Weren't the previous 4k 28" ones $700? Not too bad of a markup. Makes for an interesting choice between this and the Swift, though.

    ATI R9 295X2 or 2x GTX 980 SLI for 4k

One of the reviews showed comparable performance between 970 SLI and 295X2. For $660. I can't remember which review it was now though... 980 SLI should beat it easily.

The last time I bought one: HD5870 Going from that to tri-980 should be...significant.

GTX 970 and GTX 980 is officially launched

That's...not at all what they said. Games that don't either scale UI or support resolutions past 1080p won't be able to be automatically optimized in GeForce Experience. What games don't have resolutions past 1080p, again?

AMD's FreeSync and VESA A-Sync discussion

Then why did someone in this very thread claim AMD says it would be $20-30 retail? Yes, the big news is the announcement of hardware partners. That is very important, we didn't know that before, and it's a good sign.

AMD's FreeSync and VESA A-Sync discussion

A-Sync support is also included in DP1.3, however it's not mandatory in either of them. Also I really don't see how people don't think display vendors aren't going to upcharge for FreeSync support, regardless of how much the new scaler costs.

    [VC]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 SLI, GTX 970, 3DMark performance

The BOM is often overstated. The original 690 cooler was extremely expensive, due to being made out of magnesium. They've since switched to aluminum, which drops the price considerably. It's still not trivial, but it's not as high as people like to think. Exactly this. 3 DP on one card has...

    [VC]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 SLI, GTX 970, 3DMark performance

I think you dramatically misunderstand just how little 75 watts is. Do you start sweating in an island of heat when you turn on a light bulb? Because one those puts out more heat than a second 6-pin would add.

    [VC]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 SLI, GTX 970, 3DMark performance

Most likely weeks. Nvidia is gearing up a major press event for next Thursday Sep 18, which is likely to be the official announcement. Who knows when availability will be after that, but it shouldn't be all that far off.

    [VC]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 SLI, GTX 970, 3DMark performance

The likelihood of a defect forming is uniform across the wafer. With larger dies, you have a greater percentage of the dies containing a defect. The simple example is there's one defect: with 100 dies per wafer, you have a 1% failure rate. With 10 dies per wafer, you have a 10% failure rate.

    [VC]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 SLI, GTX 970, 3DMark performance

That's the whole point. Comparing bus width and nothing else doesn't give you the full picture.

    [VC]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 SLI, GTX 970, 3DMark performance

    [VC]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 SLI, GTX 970, 3DMark performance

Because it's one (small) component that goes into overall performance. What I'm objecting to are the people proclaiming doom and uselessness because of 256-bit. If bus width were so critical, GTX 280 would be better than GTX 780. Bus width is only one part of memory bandwidth, which is itself...
  31. M

    [VC]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 SLI, GTX 970, 3DMark performance

I'd be hard pressed to believe that you can isolate memory bus width as the determinant for the performance differential, however.
  32. M

    [VC]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 SLI, GTX 970, 3DMark performance

Bus width and bandwidth are not the same thing. Which has more memory bandwidth, GTX 280 or GTX 780? And even once you're talking about the right metric, bandwidth alone isn't necessarily something you can compare directly across architectures. Bottom line: people hyperventilating about...

    [VC]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 SLI, GTX 970, 3DMark performance

Ah, so when will you be trading in that 780 Ti for the GTX 280? GTX 280 is 512 bit! Hint: Bus width isn't the sole determinant of a card's performance, or even really all that important.
  34. M

    [VC]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, GTX 980 SLI, GTX 970, 3DMark performance

So much clickbait flying around. At this point I'm inclined to believe precisely nothing until the NDA lift. I don't care if it turns out to be right.

It's still vertical alignment: http://www.auo.com/?sn=1282&lang=en-US They compare it to "Conventional VA." Really wish they wouldn't call it "IPS-type" though. IPS and VA are not at all the same thing.

Nvidia Sues Qualcomm, Samsung Over GPU Patents

In a word, yes. Unique implementations of things that hadn't been combined before are patentable. Yes, the components may have existed before, but the combination is novel, and that gets a patent. It's why there's a "prior art" section in patent filings.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1043?vs=1037 770 beats it by a good margin. How quickly do you need one, though? This is literally the worst time to buy a new card, as it's very likely Nvidia will be unveiling new cards in the next couple of weeks. But if you need one now, you need...
