In my os device manger under display adapters, it has two things

they are both used. intel hd when only less load or normal task and discrete gpu when heavy gpu usage like gaming. i dont know model of yours but on my msi, the power button turns orange when discrete gpu is in use and it turns white again if i stop playing

When will the CPU as we know it "die"?

D:D:D: I dont know why on gpu green people, they wish amd die. on cpu blue people, they wish amd die. Poor AMD. I am not AMD fan and I dont have AMD cpu but I dont want them die. I want them to stay strong because competition is good for us consumers. just saying

Covering your PC with a towel when not in use?

OP you can cover it like you said but there is no point really cause your components will suck more dust when you are running or using it as blowers are running. Covering with towel is ok and good if you leave your rig for like a week or a month or even a year. Then its worth it but if only...

x99 bugs. are they fixed by the respective manufacturers?

one thing i can remember is the xmp bugs? where in lets say asus x99 mobo's can't get 3000 mhz even the ram is rated at 3000mhz xmp. I read somewhere that they have to reduce to 2888 or lower. I mean i could be wrong. well I experience that when i get my z87 asus. it cant get past 2666 mhz. But...

Is it possible that newer drivers cause a big hit in performance?

proof? guess vsync is on for the 290x benchmark. i find it hard to believe that flagship gpu has lower performance compared to the lower gpu.

For 2560 X 1440, any difference between dual link DVI and displayport cables?

difference is that dp has audio signal whereas dvi dual doesnt have. max res support of dvi is 1600p @ 60 hz whereas dp can support 4k or can support multiple monitors via multi link adapter. like other mentioned, stick to it if you dont have dp cable. only waste of money.

Quad R9 290x or Quad GTX 980 *liquid cooled*

i dont think 500 is enough for water cooling parts especially for quad 290x's. thats only for blocks actually + backplate. I know for other people, back plate is just bling bling but actually backplate help to cool VRM on 290's. which is essential for overclocking. I say dont cheap out...

Hdmi port not working

I am guessing you have dedicated GPU. YOu say HDMI doesnt show under device manager. I could tell you already booted in windows. Try in bios. enabled the onboard graphics. (intel HD) HDMI or any other VGA ports (D-sub, DVI and HDMI) comes from your processor.
