best config for my WAP54g? need more distance/coverage

Can the WAP54G be used as a repeater with any other router besides just the WRT54G? I know Linksys started putting a new crippled version of the WRT54G in the box recently and I was wondering if I could pick up a different router and still use the WAP54G as a repeater?

Looking for an ATX mounting plate

I got a refurbished Antec 1040 clone from newegg a couple years back and it didn't come with the mounting plate for a standard ATX power supply in the back, just a big square opening waiting for a mounting plate. I rigged it up so the power supply would stay in, but that's since come loose and...

FX5700LE 256MB vs. TI4600 128MB

Well, the Radeon 9700 Pro came out over 2 years ago and it plays the latest games quite well. It's just a question of whether you prefer to spend $400 for a video card that will last you 2 years, or spend $150 for a year-old video card that will last you a year.

FX5500 on K7S5A weirdness with latest Forceware drivers

The only 3D app I've tested this machine with so far is 3dmark2001. With the basic XP drivers (5.6.7.3) it runs 3dmark2001 just fine. With driver version 65.73 and above, whenever I start to run 3dmark it starts flashing and textures are white and then the computer restarts. Any idea what...

Question about updating firmware on an internal optical drive that is housed in an external enclosure.

Fixed Link very good $100 Video card shipped

How am I spending more for a 2-user rig when you admitted yourself it would be close to $300 for a single system? They don't have a single computer at ALL right now, so I'd need to buy 2 complete systems. You say the Celeron is a dog but just remember that this will mostly be used for playing...

So far here's what I'm leaning towards... Newegg has the JETWAY MiniQ 2-User Barebone System for Socket 478 at 533MHz FSB Intel CPU, Model MiniQ 435Twin for $162. I figure I can throw in a $68 Celeron 2.4ghz cpu, an old 30gb hdd for $20, 256mb ddr for $20, and a $20 DVD-ROM for a total of $290...

yeah I know.... I have tried to gently point out that it would probably be better to just get them a used video game system instead, but the mother's pretty determined that she wants them to each have a computer, so I'm just looking for the best possible setup.

New laptop battery keeps machine from booting up into windows

My father in law has an old KDS AMD K6-2 350 laptop. The battery on it is pretty much dead, so he ordered a compatible Canon replacement batter from www.abatterypack.com. When he puts the new battery in and boots up, it will get to the windows logo (running 98SE), and then freezes and won't go...

Can you reduce voltage of a fan with 3-pin header by swapping black and red wires?

Yeah that's what I was pretty much figuring... I hopefully have a 3-to-4-pin adapter and can just reduce voltage to 7 volts that way.

I know you can reduce the voltage of a fan with a 4-pin molex connector by swapping the wires around, but I'm thinking that the 3-pin connector doesn't have a way of carrying 5V, only 12V? I've got some old 60mm fans that are loud as hell and was hoping to find an easy way to quiet them down.

Need some advice on methods for replacing still functional laptop hard drive (getting imminent hard drive failure msg)

So I go through all this brain-crunching only to have my support guy tell me that he has an external drive bay that I can plug into the pcmcia port to do the copy. Better late than never I suppose.
