I've been dual booting Ubuntu with Windows XP for at least ten years and it is nothing other than spectacular, although Windows XP, doesn't get much use.
Just to say that XP is still holding its own since 2003. I was wiped out for a time or two, over the years, but with the 'rapid recovery disks' (is that the right name?), I was back up and running in less than an hour. Win XP, for life.
Bought a Chromebook earlier this year, just to play...
I don't use Win XP, online very much now a days. I have a lot of work that I do with it concerning the word processing software. I store a lot of old post's there as well, some going back to the early 2000's.
But, upgrading this notebook, with its 1 gig of ram, is not something that I'm...
Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7
With my present set-up, Windows 7, appears too distant. I would need a clean install. Also, after 7 years, my Iomega back-up drive seems to have given up, on doing any more back-ups. I haven't been able to get inside of it to see what the problem is.
It has probably been corrected by now, with the advances in cpu's etc., but, excessive download speed was critical at one time, as it would cause file corruption; so I am told.
Great, glad to hear it. Is Windows 7, still supported? If so, until what date?
Btw, what would be the incentive for installing Win 7? And, I feel no humiliation, because I prefer something that others do not. I would rather think for myself.
O.K., maybe I'm misinformed.
Hardly. Why do I need Wine?
No. But, perhaps the problem regarding speed and error's, is now corrected!? I don't know for sure, I'm just saying that 'speed' DL's, etc., have been known to, and may still, cause error's.
Bismillaah ir Rahmaan ir Rahiim In The Name of God (Allaah), The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful. As salaam alaykum; The Peace (of God) Be Upon You (everyone).
I suppose there might be a problem with trying to understand that Allaah (God), Blessed Is HE, Forevermore, is not created. HE...
I've heard too many complaints of Win 7, blocking dual booting. It requires disabling something or other. I would not be interested.
Wine, I've looked at. Too much disc space required. I can't spare it, at this point in time.
It's a Pentium 4, with at least 1 gig of ram. But, I'm not...
Some people would prefer that I give up Win XP, but the fact is that I cannot. My present Notebook has all of the Ram it can take and that will not permit me to install Win 7, or Win 8. I just happen to like Win XP, after all these years, plus I dual boot with Ubuntu 12.04. I had a little...
