Gateway M520 no display, but backlight works

Nope. It did look a little crooked. But I snapped it fully in place and it didn't make a difference. I assume it's a bad panel, but I could be wrong. With the price of a panel (or a system board), maybe I should just use it as a small "desktop" since a new low end notebook wouldn't be much...

Gateway M520 no display, but backlight works

I'm looking at this for a friend. Her display was working fine then one time she turned it on and got this "white" screen. No display, but just the backlights are on. I can turn up and down the brightness and the screen gets dimmer or brighter, but I can't see the video/display. I hooked it...

external hard drive with retractable usb cable & retractable ethernet (longer than 6')

The size isn't the biggie. I'd go to a 2.5" drive if I can find one that has a retractable cable.

external hard drive with retractable usb cable & retractable ethernet (longer than 6')

I'm looking for an external drive simular to the Seagate Pocket Drive I would like something larger though. Maybe 20GB. I'd even go to a larger drive like 2.5" or 1.8" (I think the Seagate is a 1") as long as it had the built in retractable cable. I know I can get a 2.5" enclosure & a...

Need an MicroATX board with onboard video/DVI

I think I'm going to order a couple of the Asus A8N-VM CSM. Seems like stock is getting much better all over on it.

What time are YOU going to the store for BF???

I'm sick of Black Fridays. I've went the last couple years and it's aways a zoo. Best Buy is the worst. You wait a couple hours in line before they open. That I was expecting and can stand. But, the thing that's not acceptable is that it takes a good hour to hour & a half to wait in line to...

Need an MicroATX board with onboard video/DVI

Thanks. Worth a shot if I can't find the Asus in stock. I like MSI boards, but the Asus's video is a bit faster and sound/sata are supposed to be better. Thanks for another option though.

Need an MicroATX board with onboard video/DVI

Did you find your board? I just got a pair of socket 939 Athlon 64's and wanted to get a couple boards with decent onboard video. The only one I can find anywhere is the Asus A8N-VM CSM. I can't find the MSI or Albatron anywhere and the Asus is out of stock just about everywhere.

Best Socket 939 Board with Integrated Graphics

I'd actually say this one. It's a better brand, faster video, and has a DVI port. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131570

    Cheapest low end gaming notebook

I have a friend who's heading over to Iraq in a couple months (he's not down south for training). My brother & another friend just got back and really liked having a notebook over there to keep in contact with family & friends and to play games during down time. My friend doesn't want to...

I just came home with a Turion lappy! :) ||Updated||

I was just thinking about one of these. I saw one on the Sam's Club website for $999. Seems like an OK setup for occasional gaming since it has a Turion and the Xpress 200 chipset. http://www.samsclub.com/eclub/main_shop...589:-43881:-43983:-43985:-43993:935569

How do I block X-box Live?

Yeah, that I know about. I've tried it once, but it was just a quickie and it didn't work. Not sure why, but I took it out anyway. Again, I would have to add the MAC of every PC I work on (probably 10-25/week) and that would be a pain too. :) This isn't a huge deal. I should have...

How do I block X-box Live?

I'm sure I got it now. Can't block the MAC, since the X-box has the ability to change it. He knows how to change it. Turning off DHCP makes a much bigger pain for me since he knows how to manually configure an IP, subnet. Also I work on client computers here and it would be a pain to set...

    Linksys Router and Sprint DSL

Yeah, Sprint DSL "modems" are actually routers. One port, one PC routers. Scott is right, change the router's IP to 192.168.2.1 since the Sprint box and it are trying to use the same IP (192.168.1.1). We have Sprint DSL around here and I have many clients that have had the same situation...

How do I block X-box Live?

True. I guess I should have just said "What ports do I need to block for X-box Live". I guess I didn't know how bad a parent I was. I kinda also wanted something in the future so it would be easy to turn on or off not just grab the X-box and lock it up somewhere.

Looking for a new router - Suggestions?

PS- I also have a 16 port switch connected to one port, a 24 port switch in the workshop on another port. The 16 port switch has a 5 port off one line and an 8 port of another. Again no issues.

Looking for a new router - Suggestions?

I agree. Linksys WRT54G (or GS since you're finding less G around). I've setup dozens of them and have no issues. I usually use HyperWRT for a different firmware though. It's free and works great. Can easily boost the power if you're a bit short. I have a two level house with basement and...

Switches are pretty cheap. I've bought 16port for less than $50 at Microcenter.

Two DSL routers with one service

Are you saying two DSL modems/routers on the same phone system? One hooked to one phone jack. Another connected to another? Not sure if that would work. I'd try going 802.11a if you're getting too much interference with B or G. Lots of things run on the same frequency as B/G (cordless...

I think TFTP is a Linux command. I've seen Windows clients around though. I'm not sure if this one is any good. The hard reset should work though.

Is this a good 16 port hub for system linking Xboxes?

Hubs just take the "message" and pass it on to all ports. You get more collisions and retries, etc.. A switch is smart enough to know which port the message is going to and only transmits on that port. End result is a switch will run better as you get more traffic on the ports.

Signal Gain Options for Netgear MR814v2 Firewall+AP?

I've had decent luck with cheap add on antennas like SMC & Hawking from Microcenter with Belkin, Netgear, Dlink. Linksys I think uses a little stronger default antenna since I get less increase from them. With Linksys, I've always had better luck just buying the actual Linksys add-on antennas or...

Wanting to use Wireless to get VoIP extensions to remote buildings.

For low cost equipment, the Linksys WAP's are good. I've had good luck using WAP54G & WAP11 in bridge mode with external antennas. I have one setup that has a multipoint to point link with one side being about the distance you're talking about, and one being about 50% further. I bought the...

Is this a good 16 port hub for system linking Xboxes?

PS- I see you said hub, but I think you mean switch. I def would recommend a 10/100 switch. Not a hub. A hub will probably be an issue once you get multiple X-boxes going and switches are so cheap now, there is no reason to get a hub.

Is this a good 16 port hub for system linking Xboxes?

Shouldn't take anything fancy. Unmanaged switches are pretty much a commodity nowadays. I use a cheap 16 port SMC in the house for the kids. Handles their PC's X-boxes, etc no problem. I've had as many as 5 PC's and 4 X-boxes going at once on it and no issues.

How do I block X-box Live?

Thanks. I think this is what I'm looking for. PS- Also Scott, I'm not sure if you meant to say I'm a bad parent since I won't take the X-box away, but that's the way I read it. I don't think someone should make a statement like that without all the facts.

How do I block X-box Live?

PS- When he did have a PC in his room, I just added it to my domain (I have a home business) and changed his user account so he can't login. When we had certain login hours, he figured out that he could unplug the network jack and the PC wouldn't realize the hour restrictions and it had the...

How do I block X-box Live?

PS- I was mainly just worried about this week since I'm often at clients' during the day and they're off for spring break. Normally, we can watch them and make sure they don't play. I hate to take everything away since there isn't alot they can do outside since it's too warm for snow to stay...

How do I block X-box Live?

He doesn't have a PC at the moment. Also, I don't want to take the X-box since we use them as Media Extenders for a Media Center PC. I guess it's not the end of the world for him if I have to take it and he gets no Media Center features and no movies off the server, but he just had a...

How do I block X-box Live?

My kids each have an X-box. My son let his grades slip, so I'd like to block him from playing. He can't stand playing solo, so blocking Live should be enough. I used to have policies for each X-box using the MAC address, but the X-box allows you to change your MAC address and my son figured...

Which 19" LCD would you choose? Samsung 915N-Black or Hyundai L90D+

What Dell are you comparing it to? Some Dell's use Samsung's PVA panels which have excellent color accuracy. I've been tossing the decision about a new monitor back & forth, but I think I'll be going back to a PVA/MVA model. My wife's 711T just puts the 915N that I had to shame. Razor...

Which 19" LCD would you choose? Samsung 915N-Black or Hyundai L90D+

I'm not positive what it stands for, but MVA is a type of panel. They tend to be mainly 25ms, but a few are faster. They usually have better contrast ratios, viewing angles, & color accuracy than TN panels. TN panels have faster response times though. PVA is a type of MVA panel by Samsung.

Which 19" LCD would you choose? Samsung 915N-Black or Hyundai L90D+

The 910 is a PVA display and would be better for office type work. Out of the Samsung & Hyundai, I'd pick the Hyundai. It has the same panel, but it has DVI & a pivotable/height adjustable stand where the Samsung doesn't. The Hyundai is cheaper too. I had the Samsung 915N for a week and...
