Personally, I will never use Nvidia GPUs for a media server or the like. I've only had bad experiences. AMD drivers have been ok for me. I haven't tried an Intel one yet but I should.
Not only were the comments you made off topic they were a mod call out. Enjoy a a few days off.

For the price the 970 is working out well. Close to 780 Ti speeds with lower power consumption. It's definitely not worth it if you already have a 780 or 290. The power saving varies depending on the task. The power consumption can rival a 780 in GPU intensive tasks.
I'm probably going to end...
VaporX runs about as cool and uses as much power as the 780 Ti and it over clocks well.

Yes there was a disaster when the card was released. Yes the disaster was mitigated.
The grass is always greener on the other side. I've had problems with both my Nvidia and AMD cards. I don't double AMD will have something to keep their dGPU lineup going but I honestly feel that they're more focused on iGPU for the future. Nvidia is looking to add a custom bus. The long term...
Errr I'm not trying to belittle you but let's use some common sense here. We're not talking about i5 750s or 6950s. We're talking about a 290. 290 were out for a few months before dropping down to $200 for ref and $300 for non-ref (I got one for $280). The card still had warranty. I've had...
To check which version of DirectX is on your computer
Open DirectX Diagnostic Tool by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, typing dxdiag in the search box, and then pressing Enter.
Click the System tab, and then, under System Information, check the DirectX version number...
The 290 was the entry to the high end for about $200 - $300. With coupon stacking/deals/2nd hand cards you'd get something that rivals the higher end cards with cost up to 2X as much.
The 970 simply took over that role now. I bought one and recommend the 970 over the 290 now. Give credit...
There is no guarantee what a 285X might be. On a related note:

Can you name our first product that processed graphics independently of the CPU? #FutureIsAMD
Hopefully their new card is better than their marketing.
AMD claims it has the fastest card:

I'd be surprised if AMD didn't have a faster card than the 980 or even 980 Ti.
I wouldn't be surprised if they don't want 800-1000 watt psu.
IMO AMD is just going to just take a beating in direct GPU for as long as the eye can see. I personally see AMD rising to the top when they have stacked RAM on a iGPU.
tweaktown shows 4k is falling a bit short but definitely competitive. Highest clocked 290X trades blows with 980 at 4K. Personally, I'd get the 980 still. The difference between 27 on a 980 and 34 fps on a 290x is still crap experience IMO... although the $400 price tags on the 290x is starting...
780 non-TI that's not OCed maybe. I have trouble believing a 7970 OC beats an OC 780 Ti. Agreed on all your other points.
I guess better is subjective picture quality isn't better for sure when one has 4k at high and 1080p at ultra
I also cannot believe a 780Ti is great as 4K. I suppose...
I don't pay either it's one of their with the pic on upcoming cards. Either way I'm taking the rumors with a grain of salt on AMD cards since they're some time away.
http://wccftech.com has the rumored specs. Estimate based on that is about 40% more. Not anything concrete for sure.
I also agree with your 28nm point of view. 20nm is around the corner for AMD: Faraway Islands. Personally, I think Nvidia might still have better power consumption this round...
Last rumor I saw was the 390X might only be 40% faster than the 290X so you're out of luck there (nuclear power plant needed to power the thing wasn't included).
I think Nvidia is going to continue winning the battle but ultimately lose the war. Without an x86 license they cannot compete against AMD in the long run. If anything I'd say the battle will rage between Intel and AMD in future graphics.
My experiences will Intel stock cooling is not so great on anything above a celery. Send $20 on a CPU cooler and you'll notice the noise and temps lower.
They played the business game well. There was more money to be made at the time for consoles than PCs so they pulled through. On the other hand their victory might be short lived given the state of PC gaming.
HT can be useful but that depends on your apps.
When you run a process in a vm, the hypervisor (in your case HyperV) creates a new process. You don't get to pick and choose process getting assigned a physical CPU, a hyper threaded or an AMD corlet (VMWARE term). The scheduler picks and...
Similar problem with 14.4 and 14.7 R3; they caused complete blackouts on my 290 to the point that I returned it. I loved the card when it worked with older drivers though :(.
Submitted report.
Given the headache of a multiGPU solution and the absurd price I'd still stay away.
If I had to buy this card for the single slot I'd simply throw away the mobo, buy a 2 slotted mobo and 2 290Xes for cheaper.
In the US we're blessed with more honesty than the rest of the world. If you go to Asia/Middle East get ready for tons of knock off fake phones, golf clubs, gold bars and looks like vid cards too now.

Names are for the uninformed. What matters is the underlying technology. I don't think anyone is impressed with the initial 285 findings.
My theory:
R9 285 is designed to get people to buy the existing cards thinking they're a better deal. When the existing inventory goes down then proof! The prices of the 285 plummets down to $180.
I hope that's AMD's tactic anyway.
Most 4K monitors I've seen do 30fps and the picture quality is crap. 1600 might be a better investment.
The 780 is fine for 30fps at 4K but if you want 60fps look more to the R9 290.
Either way as others have pointed our it's your money.
I have a wired Killer, Intel and Realtek. My experience with Killers is go for it on wireless but stay away on Ethernet (I dunno about Intel wireless since I don't have one). Intel is king on wired Ethernet. I swear by Intel from my old 100Mb to 10Gig.
Intel is steady and might be about 5%...
