Monitor Upgrade

SuperTyphoon, I can read your sig on my 17" at 1600x1200 from 4.5' away. I really really want to stick with 1600x1200. I just didn't want to have to shell out $400 - $500 to get an LCD that could run it.

I have a laptop, and it has a 15" screen that runs 1400x1050, which is why I can't believe I can't find a stand alone monitor that runs at a higher resolution without being gigantic and expensive.

Thanks, Matthias. As for the resolution, I have stupidly good eyes (18/20 vision) and it doesn't bother me. I guess I'll just drop the resolution a bit and go with a 17" LCD... oh well.

I'm at a bit of an impass and would appreciate some advice/feedback/suggestions/etc. I have a Samsung 700NF, it's a 17" CRT that runs 1600x1200@75 - hell, it runs 2048x1536@60, but 60 Hz is painful. Getting ready to leave for my third year of college, I've gotten a bit tired of lugging the thing...

The Dell is a laptop, I don't have any spare PCMCIA NICs as I don't personally have a laptop. As for the router, I tried it in all the ports, the Dell is still the only one with troubles.

You could send them to me and I'd be more than willing to test them out for a year or so and let you know for sure which is better in any and all situations ;). Or you could just go with the Athlon-XP. I think it's pretty safe to say it is "teh winnar!"

I was pretty sure 25ft. was too short as in our own store we carry 50ft. Cat 5 cables, I didn't really feel like arguing with Jon about what little sense it made to carry 50ft. cable if it only went 25ft. Also, 25ft. just seems too damn short, especially since it's used to network large...

I have a pretty damn good idea as to what I'm doing, and I think insulating the wire will take care of most of the problems. As for frying everything on both LANs, I can't say I've ever heard of that happening.

We planned on encasing it in some type of garden hose (without metal innards) or conduit. We also took a different route and got the distance down to about 280 ft. We don't really have a whole lot of money and already have networks setup at my house, so getting fiber NICs isn't really the best...

Geforce2 GTS to Ultra

You can just replace the hardware. That's how I did it when I went from my PCI TNT to AGP MX, so I'm sure the GTS to Ultra would be just as easy if not more so.

I have the cool color changing eyes. No contacts, but my eyes change color depending on the light and what I'm wearing. They vary from a greyish silver to a really deep blue. It's kinda neat really.
