Ah right, that makes sense. It is surprising that the Acer is still the only 32" 4K GSync monitor. Despite seeming to be the optimal size, it mustn't have been a big hit else the competitors would have released their own models.

The Philips BDM3270QP is another option - cheaper than the BenQ (at least here in Australia), and well reviewed.

Curved monitors and productivity?

I had the Dell U3415W briefly, but found the curve too distracting in Windows. The width was great in games and the curve didn't matter, but you're right to assume productivity apps suffer. The bends in the application windows were noticeable, and it would be pretty useless for anything that...

Interesting stuff. Not surprising if Windows is somehow interfering with the scaling - I wonder if W10 will fix that kind of thing, given it's mean to address the general 4K scaling issues. If you get time, be interested to see what happens if you run up a game with the desktop set to 4K, but...

There seem to be plenty of images out there you could use, and some 1080p YouTube test patterns, but I don't know of a specific test methodology.

Ha great image! That mini 1080 screen :-) Really interested to hear whether you need font scaling at 4K on on the 32". And how the 1080p scaling goes for gaming - is it sharp? (PS your sig says BL2701PT - should be 3201? Don't want to lose those 5"!)

4k seems to make most sense at 30" and greater - 27" seems to be pushing the usability too much without significant font scaling.

The forum post I linked earlier also seemed to confirm the BL3201 was doing a scaling right - "the BL3201 looks exactly like a 32" 1080p screen". As does this review. Which I assume means the monitors have improved.

Anecdotally the BL3201 is meant to do the 4x scaling extremely well, but it's hard to find any precise info. Let alone somewhere to see the thing in action (at least here in Australia) - seems like you have to buy it to try it.

What screen are you using? My understanding is it depends a bit on the scaler in the particular monitor, but that overall it should usually scale well and be sharp. People seem to use 4K screens for 1080p consoles for example. Here's a comparison of 1080p on the BenQ next to a 37" 1080p...
