expansion cards use a standard; the MXM 3 standard right now. You could swap many different compatible cards BIOS-and-heatsink-allowing on such a machine. As for being able to build one up, you could. Some places like RJTech sell barebones clevos etc, but you'd be hard pressed to find another...

How long do you keep your laptop?

I know people with gaming laptops (usually from alienware) with 5+ year old laptops who have the internals resembling nothing like what they were bought like XD. Does that count as 5+ years of keeping the laptop though?

PC gaming in general all around laptop under $2000

I can 100% guarantee that Trey has given you a good deal with the Sager; it would have been something I would have recommended. What I would suggest though would be dropping the blu-ray burner for a regular DVD burner and adding extra warranty time; 1 year on these things may bite you later...

Is the CPU in my laptop getting throttled during Prime95?

Yup! Glad you got it sorted out. I'm not sure about the mobile xxxxU chips, but most of the other mobile intel chips can handle up to I believe 105 degrees before damage is done. If it's not 105, it's between 95 and 105. And yeah. Small/quiet = bad cooling. It just is; there's no room. But...

I don't think you do. There ARE boards that take desktop socket 2011 chips and put them with mobile RAM/GPUs/etc though. Why did you think you could get one of those mobile chips onto a desktop board?

You could be. It maybe isn't heat, but power. Those are ultra low voltage CPUs, and while during normal use you probably wouldn't cap it out like that, under sustained usage with lack of power the speed could drop. It happens with my 4800MQ; though to a lesser extent. I'll drop from 3.5GHz...

A bit late, but there is a mobile "K" series; it's just called the "MX" chips. the i7-4930MX and 4940MX are Haswell's variants. I know someone who gets his up to 4.8GHz for benchmarks even.
