As a AMD owner of a 7970 who has now upgraded to a GTX 970 (no axe to grind with either tech) I do not think AMD are far behind. The R9 285 maybe a hint of things to come from AMD. There could be a Tonga based bigger brother around the corner that will compete with the GTX 970 and above with...
Thanks Tweak155... I'm a noob at this but it's all down to the Corsair Air 540 case. Makes keeping things in the case extremely easy and tidy. The power supply and SSD's are in another compartment allowing the motherboard and graphics to get good airflow.
Got mine on Saturday.... upgrade from 7970 and it is as good as it gets for gaming especially at the price... Batters all games and looks good to. Got the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming primarily because of the overclock out of the box and it goes with my current system. It is very quiet indeed and...
Your power supply is more than good enough and I have the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 gaming and it is a great choice as I am sure the others are apart from the EVGA which I hear is a bit louder. The Gigabyte G1 which has been in my systems since Saturday and has been quiet (can hardly hear it even when...
Ok so after looking at things in a bit more detail for me to get the temps of the i7-4790k to run at mid 20's idle and mid 60's in prime95 at 4.4ghz, 4.5 or (4.7GHZ temps reach 80 degrees) without touching voltage fully stable, (screen cap below) I have to run the following settings in bios on...
OMG!!!!!!!!!! that is awesome... i am speechless knocked out... it is fantastic. Ok my system below but i have a long way to go before i get anywhere near yours...
You are all set Nomy61.... nothing more to do your temps are great now, must have been the reseating as mid 20's and 60's and max are great temps for the i7-4790k at 4.4 and slighty above...
Enjoy
You are absolutely within the ballpark for the temps with that cooler a H100i for example will give the following in Aida64, Prime95 and IntelBurn - 100% max at 4.4Ghz on all cores mine tops out at 63 degrees.
Same as you 4790K and 32gb ram (16gb reused from my old 2600K setup) running at 4.4 with low temps... I think waiting till things mature and costs drop but more importantly significant performance increase before moving over to DDR4 based systems over my 4790K... in gaming at least.
Machine-check exception .... A Machine Check Exception (MCE) is a type of computer hardware error that occurs when a computer's central processing unit detects a hardware problem.
I know nothing about it but think MCE could mean the above... could be totally wrong though.
This is what helped me... From the ROG forums - not sure if you are in the same boat because this is for my Asus Maximus Hero VII board... but as i said you should have much lower temps period.

Hi Nomy61, just went through the same as you and i upgrade from a 2600K as well. I was pulling my hair out trying to work out what was going on as i too have a 4790k watercooled with h100i and temps were ideling in the 30's and stress testing would shoot up to the high 80's once even above 90...
A big thank you to all you guys out there... had been pulling my hair out trying to work out why things were running to hot... to be honest i still do not know why temps are so much better now i.e 26 Degrees in idle and under 62 Degrees in Prime95... before i reset the bios back to auto on vcore...
Finally found a solution from NBSeen on the ROG forums
Resetting the bios settings to default and letting the bios (auto) handle Vcore seems to have made a huge impact. Not exactly sure what is really going on but will start to learn more and take things slowly. After defaulting everything the...
Yep agree on the MX-4 it is excellent... just used the super small pea method and it seems to have done the trick. The washer on the H100 has made a huge difference as there was always movement between the backplate and the bolts/screw thingy's that the plate sat on.
Also I have finally...
I have changed the volt within AI Suite to 1.136v and have tested with Core Temp which shows the processor running speed at 4.4ghz and voltage currently live at 1.1378v. Along with this I have AIDA64 stress tested CPU at 100% for 2 hours and now temps do not go over 63 Degrees. In Prime 95 I am...
Sorry to hear about the fire but at least you are OK. Though new on here, I would go the extra mile as you are doing a whole refresh to the new platform and if you are not going to be chopping and changing then spending the extra will be worth it in the long run. Please do keep in mind that I am...
Hi all,
First i'm a newbee... and a bit apprehensive as I have started to overclock. I am getting temps of around 30 degrees in idle and 65 degrees at 100% utilization in AIDA64 and in Prime95 I max out at 82 Degrees. Does this seem a bit to high based on my configuration below.
Asus...
