Well, I think my favorite idea for forcing outages would be to have my smarthome wifi network segregated from my home network. I'd use a different router/switch and SSID for the wink system and just pull the connection to my main network switch for most instances. I could probably even get one...
If the Wink Relay really did enable offline operation and could utilize the hub for its other radios, I'd probably be in for at least one. I'd just plug in the hub for z-wave, but I'd otherwise keep it off my wifi network other than for FW upgrades and never deal with the server issues.
I read a lot about the vera in researching systems, but I was turned off by all of the comments about the poor app and interface. I actually learned about Indigo in the very early days of this thread, and I'm now strongly leaning that direction. I already have a Mac mini as a media server for...
Ooh, thanks for pointing that out! I'm glad to know Schlage makes all of that available. The Wink folks need to iterate faster and more fully develop the integration with the products they support. Realizing how poorly they actually "support" certified products makes me even more inclined to...
I just checked my Staples Connect app, and a lock battery alert is not on my list of scene/activity triggers for the lock. Not sure if Staples didn't implement it, or if Schlage doesn't make it available. Has anyone tried this with the Nexia system that supposedly fully supports all Schlage...
Though for that price, I've been considering designing and 3D printing my own wall switch plates that can fit around the existing wall switches and integrate an iPod touch into each room. I just need to lay out my own small power supply to "harvest" the 120VAC, convert to 5V, and hide a small...
I was disappointed with the performance of my Schlage lock and its very low reliability with my Wink hub, so I just dismantled my z-wave network and moved over to the Staples Connect system to do a little head-to-head testing... The Connect is MUCH better with the Schlage lock. In the last...
I am using the iPhone apps for both of these, and the Chamberlain is far better on the iPhone. Although it has to log in each time, it does it so fast that it's faster than opening up the wink app and selecting the garage door.
And I too get the issues with the wink app, so without being...
Thanks, Kaido, for pointing out the garage door "integration"! I had asked Wink when that was coming and they said later in the month. BUT, I just installed the Chamberlain garage door opener a few weeks ago and updated the app to include the door. To my surprise, I could not add the door to...
