I have come up with the following build based on whatever I know and based on internet research. I am building it for my younger brother who is even more of a newbie than I am. So there won't be any overclocking etc.
Processor - Intel Core i5 4590 3.3 GHz
Motherboard - Gigabyte H81M-S2PV...
Even the most powerful dual-GPU setups today(I really really hate triple-GPU) are not gonna give smooth gameplay at 4k at highest settings for a few games (and the number of such games will increase significantly in the near future).
I am holding off upgrading to 4k till Christmas next year...
I think Nvidia would go with the former, as it will allow room for one more (or even two more) cards based on GM206.
Plus the gap between 960(Ti) and 970 shouldn't be too big. 770 was about 20% slower than 780(the two cards meant to be replaced performance-wise). As the clock on 970 is...
Agreed. The two cards could look like:
960Ti - 10 SMX - 1280 cores - $239
960 - 8 SMX - 1024 cores - $179
Plus 750Ti and 750 need to drop around $20. AMD still gives better performance/price ratio in low-mid range.
