I have around 330.00 for a GPU

GTX970 strix or better bang for buck R9 290 pcs+ They're the cheapest I could find, except there's a even cheaper xfx R9 290 DD around $245.

Getting Newegg credit on my 970's... Which 290/290x in CF?

GTX 960 is expected to launch next month.

How much an OEM or those prebuilt systems costs? idk about you but it's around $300-400 here ,most of them comes with 270w-450w PSUs ,while majority of them is 350w or below. I have lots of friends who have those pre-built PCs ,and tell you what, they have no clue whatsoever about PC hardware...

Ah the good ole OEM card eh? Everyone at AT seems to have OEM PCs, and they're enthusiasts. Anyway , I won't argue with you there, it's for people who a 450w PSU ,but even then I'd recommend them a gtx750ti or R260X.

If NVIDIA and AMD ran at exactly the same price/performance/heat/RAM ratios...

Most likely AMD, as freesync is supposed to be cheaper than g-sync. I've had issues with my gt450, gave me bsod while gaming, driver not responding, tried everything literally but nothing changed l,So I guess it was a faulty card or something. bought a hd6870, no issues whatsoever. But still...

That 128-bit memory bus just irks me, otherwise it's a fairly decent card, but it needs to go down below $200 ,$169/$179 perhaps? The thing is, between $200-$270 , R9 290 is the default winner, if its not available ,then you go for 280x and then R9 280 until they go out of stock everywhere.

You forgot Titan, Titan Z or gtx780ti, and how R9 290/290x effected those bizarre prices. it's a cycle, new gpu comes out,prices drops for the older ones, it's not a big deal. and GTX970 released for $300? it was $330-$350 on planet earth. sigh..This thread is getting way offtopic now.

Well, Corsair CX600 for $38 along with R9 290 PCS+ for $238 These are your best options currently, you can also wait for the next big thing, though I doubt you'll see a better deal than $238 R9 290.

pc randomly shuts off

Sounds like an overheating issue, try checking your CPU temps, reseat the Hsf or reapply thermal paste. it shuts off under which condition? gaming? or browsing files and stuff? if it's not under any significant load then idk ..could be anything from ram to motherboard.

nVIDIA PhysX broken?

PhysX uses CUDA,thus offloading physics calculations from the CPU. So how can he be CPU bottlenecked? or am I missing something?

You can try 3dMark to benchmark your cards,or any ingame benchmark utility. Also use Display Driver Uninstall utility to completely remove the old drivers and then reinstall the latest one. btw which game are you playing? Hd6970 is alot faster than a gtx460.
