I can vouch for that! Bought my latest set at Tire Rack and installed locally by a shop. Got a screw in the tire and Discount Tire patched it up for free! :thumbsup:

Here it is...: FINALLY got the new tires on it and detailed!

It'll be a good chance to teach OP's younger kids about "preventative maintenance" and do some work in the garage. :D Aftermarket warranty should take care of big ticket items as well. Or maybe I'm just crazy because I bought a 10 year old M3 and enjoy the @#$% out of it :beer:

Can it be a stick? You can pick up a nice example of a E39 M5 ('98-'03) for that price. I can't say that maintenance will be cheap, but the 4.9L V8 is a helluva of a motor. An unmodified example will be a very comfortable cruiser around town or on the highway, but also let's you have fun when...

If you wanted something that handled well, had some decent low end torque, could serve year round and was a four door...

2nd gen G35 E90 330i E46 330i or xi (try to get with ZHP package) E36 M3 sedan basically what everyone has already said =)

What tires should I get

On my M3, the Sumitomos are currently cheaper than the Generals. ($378 vs $388) FYI the Generals came with this disclaimer from Tire Rack: "We do not suggest Exclaim UHP tires be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice."

What tires should I get

I got a set of Sumitomo HTR Z IIIs for my M3 a couple months ago. They're categorized in the Max Performance Summer tires, so it's even gripper than the Generals. I think they have a great amount of grip, and are a good value for some low-profile, performance tires. Tirerack: Sumitomo HTR Z...

Is BMW really that good of a automobile manufacturer?

They're usually a great drive, while pampering you a bit with some luxury bits. I currently have a '94 Miata and '99 M3, and I would say the Miata is just as fun as the M3 to drive, just in a lighter/slower kind of way :D

I'd have to agree this is a great 2nd car...most fun you'll have without breaking the bank. I got my '94 for under $4k and it runs like a champ!

Thinking of getting another E39 M5

Looks like a clean car from the pictures, but I would get a PPI done by a BMW mechanic. These cars are ridiculous in how much they pull in any gear...and handling not half bad either for a two ton sedan. :P Definitely a much better cruiser than any E46... I personally prefer the big nav...

What about a 2003+ 3-series? You can find some 325/330s for that price. Granted, the maintenance will be higher than the Japanese cars you've mentioned. You can even try to find a 325xi or 330xi if you want to the AWD capability. Other entry level luxury cars (some import, some not): Acura TL...

I averaged about 20 mpg in my E36...of course I just picked it up a couple weeks ago so drove it hard whenever possible. I'm sure the lack of the taller 6th gear also doesn't help mileage on the highway. M6? or plain 6-series? That'd be amazing MPG for a M6.

Buying a new to me used car: 2004-05 A4 or 2004-05 TSX ?

I test drove a mazdaspeed6 a few days ago...the clutch doesn't have a very linear feel, but the car picks up speed with extreme ease once the turbo kicks in. I think you'll enjoy the 6MT in the TSX a lot more. Good luck!

What type of tire do you recommend?

I liked the Falken ZE-512s on my Accord (225/45/17)...last week I've now gone back to stock wheels (205/60/16) and running on Falken ZE-912 (replacement for ZE-512s). Got the tires at Edge Racing and then had the local Discount Tires to put them on...so far so good.
