Aopen AK86L(VIA K8T800) Review!

Funny, I have an audigy2 in PCI slot 3 also. Going to try that and 2 of the other BIOS to see if the mem scores improve.

Aopen AK86L(VIA K8T800) Review!

Hummm...So here's some problems i can't fix with the Aopen. 1st: Cpu usage is always at 30-40%, regardless of what bios is used. 2nd: Mem scores in sandra with the 1.06q BIOS are at 1920/1920. I never tried sandra mem with any of the other BIOS so thats next(should be around 3050)

Has AOpen implemented AGP/PCI lock on a VIA chipset mobo?

Havn't tried the asus yet, but I have spent a good amount of time with the MSI K8T NEO and the AOpen MK86-L. In comparing the 2 the Aopen is easily the best by design. Better VRM and higher quality mosfets, better tracing. Of the 3 K8T's I had they were also fairly picky of what ram was used...

Need input on office internet setup

What they wanted to do seemed kinda goofy to me, thats why i asked :) The company wanted $1500 to do what i listed above. I'm going to look into different routers including those you all spoke of and see if I can't do it myself for them. Should be cheaper and keep some kind of simplicity.

Need input on office internet setup

Here's whats in place already.....a file server running netware and 7 PC's connected to that running winXP or 2k. And here's what a compnay proposed to do........Internet would come in via cable modem to a new internet server running XP/ICS with zone alarm, then to a hub and out to 4 of the 7...

Overclocked Barton 2500+ Temperature?

I don't remember the week of the cpu, but I'm at 44c running prime @2250 1.75V witha slk800A/panaflo fan.

Warm: CompUSA 300W psu $19.99

A division of fujitsu(FMI) used to make them, I don't know if they still do or not. Past experience with them has been good, they are decent quality. I don't know much about thier current line so i can't compare them to anything.

WindowsXP license keys for office use

I need to upgrade and build a few PC's in a small office, all the machines currently use win98 and i had wanted to put XP on them all and also update netware. After reading this post I had wonderd if i could purchase 1 XP cd and buy COA/license's for the rest, using the one CD? Would that work...

I know a computer shop that tells me the ECS K7S5A motherboard is junk. (they claim 30% return rate)..what do you think?

I think one reason people heard so many bad things about them is because(as stated earlier) so many people bought one. It had to have been in the top 3 for best selling athlon board last year retail wise, and was #1 in the OEM channel in asia(don't know about the U.S). Plenty got around. Now...

Some Kt266A boards had the right PCI divider, but I don't think any changed the AGP?

What kind of power supply do I need?

If your planning for the future also, I would look for at least 30A on the 5V, 28A on the 3.3V and a minimum TCO of 200watts for the 3.3v&5V regardless of what brand you choose. Just my opinion though.

Best cheap Athlon XP mobo w/integrated everything?

My first thought would be the Biostar M7VKQ or M7VIG, they have everything and can be had for $52/$63. The K7S5A isn't a bad option either(and would perform much better) but you surely don't need a $40 radeon card to go with it. A expert2000 or even the ATI mobility card would be just fine. That...

Athlon Power consumption chart?

I think most people would be suprised with what you can get away with now. I have made 2 dual athlon setups(xp1600+ and 1700+) that both run on a enhance 350watt PS(28A 3.3v, 30A 5v, 220watt combined). Both have the usual parts and 2 7200rpm IDE HD's each. I'm not saying get the enhance but just...

Checksum: When ECS was asked about the stickers that was their responce, you could maybe shoot an e-mail off you them to double check and hope they acually get back you you :) Smashster: I hope it does work for you, either way please let us all know.

K7S5A mobo revision

What peter said was correct, the number of the sticker is the line it came off of. The 1.X version does support XP's with the later BIOS releases, but in the same way most KT133A boards due, by a micro code update. Versions 2.x and above(with the XP sticker) had the value of 2 resistors changed...

I'm picking up TV audio on my PC?

A: I'm not crazy :) and B: I know certain things can cause this, but, I get whats sounds to me like TV audio through my speakers on my PC. It's alot more noticable when wearing headphones. What i don't understand it this, i can mute my audio in windows and still hear it and it's the same level...

Abit KR7A-133Raid or ECS K7S5A which should I go with?

If your trying to avoid using VIA chipsets, you may want to look at some of the SIS 745 boards. Asus and MSI make 2 very good boards based on that chip and they would have a better upgrade path then the 735 based K7S5A imo. I have used the MSI 745 Ultra a few times and liked it alot, used dozens...

Well, yep...the update works. I didn't know the updates were free with OEM versions. My version SHOULD work though :( Thanks for the help, don't know why i didn't try that before.

Internet routing, anyway to change it?

I transfer alot fo files to and from a server and my routing takes me through this node, 62.200.198.142. Packet loss if around 70% for me. Is there a way to get the way i am routed to the server changed so i don't have to pass through this node? Something my ISP can do?
