Scratch that again.....
It seems some old (~4-5yr.) SATA drives are not compatible with AHCI either on my new board or in general.
One of them was a data drive that was known to be good up until the new hardware and Win7 install; previously XP. It showed the same exact issues as when the...
Just installed Win 7 x64 on an Asus M4A87TD EVO (AMD 870) with AHCI enabled in the BIOS before hand.
The problem is that my HD activity is completely unbearable! I mean I can click on the start menu and have to wait a minute! That was with the standard MS drivers. Changing over to the 10.9...
Thanks for the links, but I've been there too;)
The AMD site has only chipset drivers for much older series and the ATI site only has the RAID driver and a "disk performance utility"....whatever that is.
I do appreciate the help though.
O.k....this is even embarassing to ask, but where are the AMD motherboard reference drivers on their site? Can someone please link.
Does AMD not design reference drivers?
So, besides the obvious design features of the chipset, the determining factor would be power phases? The more, with the ability to turn them off, the better?
Is it true that a comparable mATX board would consume less power than an ATX?
The way I see it is that if the only difference is in the number of expansion slots (all other outputs: USB, audio, etc. being the same) then power consumption would be the same, right? I mean if there isn't a card...
Is there a way to use Windows XP system restore and configure it not to backup every day?
Plus, is there a way to extend the backups past the 90 day cutoff period (assuming avail. disk space)?
I don't believe the smart-joy adapter allows button mapping through the included software, but I may be wrong.
One of the games which I play, FIFA, doesn't allow button mapping in the game. Playing this with the Xbox controller just doesn't cut it (I need those R/L buttons).
I'm in the market for a PS2 adapter myself. One thing I'm seeing though is a lack of custom button mappings for any of them. People seem to be having trouble with the mappings of some games making them tough or impossible to play (EA sports games, such as FIFA come to mind). Currently I'm...
I'm assuming you tried a different port? I recently ran into a USB problem where a printer would not work no matter what. The only fix was to remove all of the drivers AND switch ports.
If the manual states no +R/W then you can't use them. Not all drives are capable of reading either format. As for your NEC drive, you'll have to look up the model and see what the specs are. If you have a program like nero there is a tool that can tell you what the drive is capable of too...
I've learned about using quality checking tools to evaluate my burns (cdfreaks helped a lot). So far so good. I guess the thing is that even with a "good" burn I still have to consider the lifespan of the dye used.
It was considered "cheap" media at the time...around $3/disc. Videos started to pixelate and break up or just not read at all after less than 1 year. This was with 1x burns on a first generation Pioneer (A03?). This was confirmed with all of the discs in multiple players.
Had no choice but...
Are there still DVD recordable media longevity issues with the current variations of media? I first started transfering video content to DVD-R media around 2 years ago. Today, those discs are all thrown out as the data won't read correctly. Considering what is made today, will my videos still...
The problem is this:
If I drop an ACPI Uniprocessor image on a machine that is only ACPI PC, it won't boot into Windows. However, if I drop an ACPI PC image on a machine that normally runs as ACPI Uniprocessor, it will work and boot into windows. If I know for a fact the machine normally runs...
Thanks for the link, but unfortunately that really doesn't help me much.
I need to know, for example, that an Athlon XP 1200 runs with ACPI PC and not ACPI Uni.
I have a base image of windows XP pro. Based on recommendations, I built this image on an ACPI PC.
My question is: is there a list of which processors should be ran with this HAL and which should have the ACPI Uniprocessor HAL installed? I'm not sure how much of a difference there is...
What if you burn a CD with floppy emulation so it comes up as drive A:
This will usually make your floppy (if there is one installed) come up as drive B:
I've seen this before with boot CDs that I made. There were some machines which would give this error, but most would work. I would love to know what is causing it!
What exactly is the correct format then?
Do I need to specify which group I want them to be added to? I thought restricted groups was only for the local administrator accounts. Any help on how to accomplish this is greatly appreciated!
Server 2000 domain:
I created a restricted group called "local admin group" and added the domain admins group and another user to it. However, the computer used for the testing (windows xp sp1) won't take these settings. I've tried numerous reboots and policy refreshes using gpupdate /force...
You're absolutely right. It all depends on what the admin's intentions really are. There are pluses and minuses for each "solution". The negative to a roaming profile is if it contains a large amount of data. This increases logon/logoff times and utilizes bandwidth. Really, the...
If I understand the issue correctly, you could also use folder redirection in a group policy for those users. This way, instead of a roaming profile transfering files back and forth, you could have folders such as "Application Data" and "My Documents" always point to the server no matter what...
I have a Windows 2000 Server with a multicast scope setup. I'm also running Ghost 8.0 Corporate. When clients connect from a boot disk they show an IP from the class B scope. If I understand correctly, this is how IP works with multicasting...you need a "real" IP first. How do I know if...
