Hehe... i ran the D2OL client for long enough... it drove me crazy having to manually delete files to fix broken blocks. The amount of ram the client used was also ridiculous. I actually noticed my mom's laptop being a lot slower than normal while running the client.

Wow, 200-220 K cEMs/sec for a 2.2 Ghz p4? How come our team is doing so poorly then? Is it just the lack of participants? Our team's total rate is about as much as 10 2.2 Ghz P4s then... which is not good enough if you ask me.

Hmm... my Asus A7N8X Deluxe w/ AXP 1700+ is getting about 110,000 cEMs/sec at the moment. Now tell me how P4 is better? That's what I thought. ;) I am crunching away at about 400,000 cEMs/sec total atm.

I wouldn't worry; we can take them ;) BTW, my primary system (Node 11724) is ranked #4 for the day 100 Candidates. The thing that surprises me is that it is only an Athlon XP 1600+ on an nforce. I guess the Linux client is a lot better than I thought. I am running RH8 fyi.

I am wondering if someone could help me. On the D2OL site, I accidently added a node to my list of nodes; how do I remove it? -This happened because I couldn't get D2OL working in RH8 at first, so I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated...

question about the athlon xp and p4

The Athlon XP is limited by the 266 Mhz FSB, which AMD doesn't have any plans to change. So the speed from the cpu to the memory controller remains at 266 Mhz, while the speed from the memory controller to the memory is at 333 Mhz. The 266 Mhz is a bottleneck, so performance is barely increased...

Does anyone in these forums ever read roadmaps? AMD's latest roadmap shows that the mainstream version of clawhammer will be released first, in Q4 2002. AMD would be nuts to release the server version first; they need to obtain approval before releasing server version if they want to charge...

AMD or PENTIUM?

I have used many laptops at work; the Intel P3 & AMD Athlon4 run very similarly. I would recommend both. For Athlons. the Compaq 700 notebooks are pretty nice, and so are the Sony FXAs. I would still avoid the new P4Ms because they don't make a good price/performance notebook.

I would recommend you avoid the new P4 notebooks; I did a home setup for a friend at work who just purchases one of the new 16.1" VAIO P4s. Boy, it sure is a POS. I was amazed at how many times the computer failed to shutdown properly. It also ran EXTREMELY slow at times. Just loading windows...
