Question Getting SSD for ThinkPad X1 - 980 Pro or SN850?

Thanks. I've actually decided to repurpose a 2TB 970 Evo Plus drive from my desktop that only had 200gb of data on it. Will do a swap tomorrow, and that'll save me $400 :) It's not as fast as the PCIe4 drives, but in real world usage the difference is probably barely noticeable. And "free" is...

Question Getting SSD for ThinkPad X1 - 980 Pro or SN850?

Alright, I just got a new ThinkPad X1 Yoga laptop, with 11th Gen Core i7, so it supports PCIe4. It came with a 1TB Toshiba PCIe Gen3 drive, and I either way want to put in a 2TB drive (it only has 1 M.2 slot). I'm looking for the overall best mix of performance and power efficiency, and am...

No, planning on going AIO with the GPU.

    Converting to water-cooling for CPU/GPU

Well, in this new case for some reason the H110i is not giving me significantly better temperatures than the Noctua NH-D15. And to give me those temperatures, it generates a lot more noise than the Noctua. So what I'm gonna do is just return the H110i. In this Corsair 750D case I overall get...

    Converting to water-cooling for CPU/GPU

So I decided to exchange my Fractal Design R5 case for a Corsair Obsidian 750D, which has better airflow than the R5. It's also bigger and roomier so easier to work in. Along with that I got a Corsair Hydro 110i GT. Installed it in the top as exhaust. Two 140mm intake fans at the front of...

    Converting to water-cooling for CPU/GPU

All this research about water-coolers is almost giving me a mind to send the D15 back to Amazon and go full AIO for both GPU and CPU. But I'll think it over a bit more. Have until the 20th to return the D15, beyond that I'm stuck with it. Noise/performance ratio wise though, the D15 is hard...

    Converting to water-cooling for CPU/GPU

I think for now I'm gonna try just doing the GPU, and will leave the CPU air-cooled. From researching a bit more last night it seems that I will not gain much in terms of temps in the CPU department when going from my Noctua NH-D15 to a AIO setup. The GPU however is another story, and there are...

    GTX 980Ti finally launched - MSRP $649 - Reviews

Yeah, well too bad EVGA.com charges a 15% restocking fee. Didn't think I'd feel the need to exchange it once I had it so that's why I went with EVGA.com. Now I kinda regret that. Asked if I could return it and upgrade to 980Ti Hybrid, but they said I still need to pay 15% restocking fee...

    Converting to water-cooling for CPU/GPU

If I go the AIO route for the GPU (which I probably will), I might go for the NZXT G10 + NZXT Kraken X31 combo. Or the soon to be released Corsair HG10 N980 + a Corsair Hydro cooler. Those also have solutions for the VRAM with heatsinks/coolers for that area and then an open spot where you...

So at stock speeds running an EVGA 980Ti SC+ ACX2.0+ on a Furmark stress test, it started throttling speeds once I reached 88C. And I reached 88C pretty quickly, with ambient temps of around 27C. Is that normal behavior?
  11. S

    Converting to water-cooling for CPU/GPU

Perhaps... though I ordered my current card directly from EVGA, so there would be a 15% restocking fee since it's otherwise not defective. But I might get in touch with them to see if I can work something out with them. It would be the easiest route, and overall also the cheapest route as it's...

    Converting to water-cooling for CPU/GPU

Hi guys, I recently built a new PC (a few weeks ago) with a 4790K and a Noctua NH-D15 cooling it. This is all in a Fractal Design R5 case. I'm thinking of upgrading to water-cooling. Why? Yesterday I received my EVGA 980Ti SC+ ACX+ video card, but I'm not really happy with the temps I'm...

Yeah, that's what I think too... might have to look into a AIO water cooling solution down the road for the 980Ti.

The fans do completely shut off at idle and the custom fan curve I've applied doesn't have them turn on until about 60C. I can of course change that and always have them spinning at about 10%-20% of max speed and then start ramping up >60C. But the idle temp isn't my main concern, I'm more...

But that always happens with technology man. Nothing you can do about it. Something new is always around the corner. I want to upgrade my 970 and then I will not look back for at least 3 years. But I will not pay $200 extra :)

5 minutes ago it showed 19 left in stock, now it shows 13 left in stock. People are actually paying $220 bucks more for the privilege of having it early. People are nuts! For that price you might as well get a Titan.

    New ASUS PG279Q 1440p 27" G-Sync IPS

Well the difference between Nvidia's G-Sync and AMD's Freesync is that G-Sync is a closed standard, whereas Freesync is an open standard that's part of the Displayport 1.2a specification (correct me if I'm wrong anyone). AMD just coined it Freesync for marketing purposes I suppose, but the...

    New ASUS PG279Q 1440p 27" G-Sync IPS

It's been around for at least a year. Don't know how flawless it works. For that, Google is your friend. I have a gsync monitor from Acer on order, the xb270hu. That has similar specs as the Asus. So another thing is Freesync, which works with Amd cards. Gsync only works with nvidia cards...

    New ASUS PG279Q 1440p 27" G-Sync IPS

Yeah, it can look like a horizontal heat wave. And i'm not sure I understand your second question that well, but it takes out most of the hassle of finding the right refresh rate. If you just get a 144Hz panel but the game is playing at 60 fps, the monitor will automatically drop to 60Hz, in game.

    New ASUS PG279Q 1440p 27" G-Sync IPS

The short version of what G-Sync is is that it allows the video card to constantly change the monitor's refresh rate based on the frames per second (fps) in a game. This will allow for smoother gameplay as it will eliminate tearing (which is what happens when the videocard is sending frames to...

    New ASUS PG279Q 1440p 27" G-Sync IPS

Well it depends on the kind of scaler it uses. Odds are it will just upscale 1080p content to 1440p. It's the same aspect ratio, so in that sense it will look reasonable. But it will otherwise look a bit blurry. Maybe the scaler will support 1:1 pixel mapping, which would display 1080p...

Well with Nvidia having just released the 980 Ti, AMD better announce something tomorrow at their Computex event. That could prevent people from buying all the 980 Ti hardware out there if their announcement proves to be something that's worth waiting for.

GTX 980 Ti specifications - Teaser and benchmarks

Well, I'll make sure to compare it to the Dell before I decide to keep it. Rumors are that Acer is stepping up their QC, so perhaps the newer batches will be better. I should receive mine in 2-4 weeks. And also the review sample on TFT Central didn't have a lot of uniformity issues, so I guess...

GTX 980 Ti specifications - Teaser and benchmarks

Even after calibration? I have a colorimeter that I use to calibrate any display I use. And Simon from TFT Central claims that the Dell has a slightly better default setup, but otherwise they will be similar for day to day use, especially after calibration.

GTX 980 Ti specifications - Teaser and benchmarks

Is the Acer panel really that bad? I mean, once you're able to get your hands on a panel without bleeding problems or dead pixels, will it then not compare just as well to the Dell? They're both IPS type panels (the Acer is AHVA by AU Optronics and the Dell is AH-IPS by LG.Display) so they...

GTX 980 Ti specifications - Teaser and benchmarks

Yes, the Dell is 60hz. I don't expect the 980Ti to solve the problems, it just means I can have a higher frame rate with more eye candy. I think what will mainly solve my problems is to get a 144Hz panel with Gsync, such as the Acer XB270HU. Pre-rendered frames was already on 1.

    [TFTCentral - Review] Acer XB270HU - 27" 144Hz IPS G-Sync

Well I don't know where you bought it, but if you can still return/exchange it then you should probably do that until you get a version that doesn't have any major issues. Given the target audience for this monitor though (and keep in mind that G-sync commands about a $200 price premium) you...
