partition magic has a bad habit of trashing your hard drive (kind of) in certain curcumstances. The worst is if you have a power outage or if it hangs up during a resize operation and you power down and reboot. Your hard drive will no longer be accessable.
BUT...
all of the info is still...
As cheap as monitors, printers, etc. are, just get new ones here. Saves the trouble of packing them up, also. I just bought a 19" NEC MultiSync MS95 at a yard sale for $20. Printers go for $10 & up.
It's a "utilities" partition. When you boot the computer if you press F12 - my 8300, anyway. Your's might be different - you will get a menu of bootable devices. When you select that partition you can check various parts of the computer. You can delete it if you think you will never need to use...

sounds like it's write protected. try this old DOS command on it:
c:\attrib -r <filename>
if that fixes it don't forget to write protect it when you are done. from the c:\ prompt:
attrib +r <filename>
1. You will need a external modem that will work with verizon. If you don't know what is compatible I recommend you either buy or rent one from verizon.
2. You will also need a router. Hook up each computer that you want to connnect to the verizon account to the router. If you have a...
Wow! You're setting yourself up for hundreds of hours of work!
Getting started is semi-easy.
If your r2r is amplified, hook it up from the output of the r2r to the input of your sound card on your computer. You can get the cable at radio shack.
If your r2r isn't amplified, hook it...
The price of homes in small American towns seems to be a well kept secret in the U.S. I bought a two bedroom home in immaculate condition on three lots with a two car garage in Kansas for $55k - and it was one of the higher priced homes that we looked at! And like TN, major stores are 30...
one thing no one has mentioned about firewire is the ease of connecting two computers together for file transfer. I had to do a large transfer from my thinkpad to the desktop (25 gigs - had to reformat my tp drive) and my network connection was going to take (it estimated, anyway) 24 hours to...
The DVD-ROM died on my T30. It seemed to be working just fine but would not read any type of media (CD/DVD, data, music or video).
But with a 3 year standard warranty it was replaced with like a 7 day turn-around for free.
a centronics connector looks like the printer end of a parallel port printer cable. BUT you cannot use a printer cable as it is a 36 pin connector where a scsi centronics connector is 50 pins.
If it's the screw threads that are stripped, like mwmorph said - finding a tap that small is gonna be kinda hard!
If the screw head is stripped where you can't turn it with a screwdriver, try wetting the screwdriver and dipping it into some ajax. Seems to give some extra turning power.
Huh, that's strange!
I put my copy of XP pro on my dell 8300 and put their oem XP Home version on a home built comp that I gave away. The oem home version activated just fine!
Wonder what the difference is.
first three (3) computers I bought were comodore 64's... every darn one of them was bad out of the box! Wouldn't even power up. So I bought a Atari 800XL and have had an Atari in the house ever since.
first pc was a Cordata lunchbox portable. 4.77 / 2 - 360k floppies, 256k memory, 9 inch...
I have the ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 which allows me to hook two monitors up to one video card.
Using Windows XP it splits the screen so you can be using different programs on each screen. I haven't really expermented with it, but I believe that you could also set it up to have one desktop on...
My T30 Thinkpad has the sticker on the bottom of the case with the W2K key and the new Dell computer at work has the XP key on it also. Most new computers come with a sticker like Zoomzoomers said.
Since you have reformatted the hard drive you will need special software to recover that...
If you are talking about w2k loading the drivers for that particular computer (motherboard, video, etc.) all you have to do is press F8 during boot up and select safe mode.
MCrusty has the better idea, tho. Stick it in another computer as a slave drive and take the files off that you want.
I faintly remember that Compaq at one time had a very proprietary system. That included a hidden partiton (usually around 3 megs in size) that contained the CMOS information. If you did a FDISK and deleted that partition, you are up the proverbial creek without any type of rowing equipment...
