Migrating Windows 10 from HDD to SSD..is this guide and program all I need?

It should be enough. Personally, I often use AOMEI Backupper to clone large hdd to smaller ssd. you don't have to shrink the partition for it to fit the ssd, as the software will do it.

What software you was reading? I never heard of any cloning software that would delete data from the source drive. It only delete all the data on the destination disk(the disk you clone to). If there are valuable data on the target drive, backup it before trying to clone hard drive to it. By...

Free software to copy/backup LARGE folder in XP?

I have used freeware AOMEI Backupper Standard to backup files and system for a long time, which hasn't failed me till now. it supports file/folder backup, system backup, disk/partition backup, and file sync. It works with Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10. I think it should be meet your requirement.

We couldn't update the system reserved partition.

Would post a photo of your disk management? I guess your Data partition is marked as system. I once had the same problem. I fist tried to free more than 50 MB free on system partition. I ran the Windows 10 upgrade, and this time it got further before failing and failed with a different message ...
