So I guess that confirms the A9 is LPE and lays waste to the hope that Samsung...
I'm pretty sure it was Richard Huddy that said Fury was an overclocker's dream. That it was pounced upon and used as an anti-AMD tirade is ridiculous though.
Paying 500 bucks on a whole new platform just to play Fallout 4 doesn't seem like good value to me. Now if gaming improvements were 40% in every game that might be different, but we all know that is not the case.
Techspot's results seem different with a stock 2500K doing a lot better - only...
TechReport is obviously compromised though now that Wasson is at AMD. o_O
Most high-end gamers should know that 39dB is effectively silent in a high-end rig.
You really need to try understanding the balance sheet instead of looking at the bottom line. AMD is not losing $200 million a quarter, 1/3rd of it was an inventory write-off and a lot went on restructuring charges and other one-offs.
They have already sold off their packaging plant for $320...
Are you seriously trying to tell us that waiting until AMD's "inevitable" chapter 11 before buying their IP is good business sense, all for a few hundred million maturing over the next 10 years?
Like I said, you know nothing about business. Had MS bought AMD they would never have had to worry...
No the issue seems to be the "rest of you".
http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/anton-shilov/valve-directx-12-does-not-make-a-lot-of-sense-vulkan-does/
If I need to explain that to you you've got a problem.
How long have you been predicting AMD's "inevitable" Chapter 11 bankruptcy?
Never read so much crap in all my life. You guys have no idea about how business works.
MS already blew it by not buying AMD during the Mantle phase. Had they done that, Vulkan would never have existed. Now they are set to lose billions in future revenue. That is just one example of how little you guys seem to realise how much AMD's IP is worth.
It suits all of AMD's competitors and partners to keep AMD as they are. Trust me, if one company tried to gain all of AMD's IP it would start a bidding war that could end up anywhere. Nvidia would probably end up being bought as well, this stuff is too critical to be in the hands of one bigger...
Except for the fact that a much bigger competitor now has AMD's IP?
No wonder some of you guys can't figure this stuff out if you can't figure simple ideas like that out.
Nobody tries to buyout AMD because it would start a bidding war. There are many companies that would gain a big advantage with AMD's IP alone, but the cost would be very high in the end.
If you are a tech enthusiast then you'd be doing your best to ensure that the best tech won at the best price point. This is what I do, because I'm a fan of technology - especially gaming technology.
If you're not doing that then you should re-evaluate your position, because you're not a tech...
Intel isn't comparable to the pure-play foundries because what is profitable for them is much different to a company like AMD. Intel has no margin for error and needs to balance die sizes compared to their own previous nodes.
AMD is literally at the bottom of the barrel (massive, crap...
That's why the difference in die size matters here.
Nvidia's 500mm2 chip is AMD's 450mm2 chip on process difference alone.
AMD also needs to make use of the massive bandwidth they have left over with HBM.
I expect to see a 450mm2+ chip from them very early.
I'm not using WCCFTech as a source for anything. It is clear that AMD successfully taped out multiple products on 14 LPP in early November and Global is on record stating that M/P starts early 2016.
There are other sources confirming this is true.
Fiji X2 is a niche product designed to market...
There is no way to get to that conclusion alongside your previous conclusion that the A9 is LPP.
Assuming May 2015 for best-case production start on an LPP A9, that would mean 4 months from production start to iphones (September).
Arctic Islands is already ramping with M/P scheduled for...
I can deliver multiple, trustworthy industry sources stating or suggesting it is likely to be 14 LPE. The only "sources" contrary to this view are you and Arachnotronic...
Yields are much higher too now? Yet 2/3rds of A9's are Samsung built and TSMC has vastly more capacity...how does that...
Can you provide proof of any source stating that Samsung was mass producing A9's on LPP?
No it's because the A10 production has zero relevance to the A9 production. There are lots of reasons why TSMC are the better choice for Apple that have nothing to do with performance.
What makes you believe that it is 14 LPP instead of 14 LPE?
This is not relevant to the discussion.
What previous experience? Maxwell? In every other case I can remember in the last 7 years AMD has been faster or really close with much smaller dies.
TSMC's A9 appears to be slightly better than...
Ok well this could be really bad news for Nvidia because it very much looks like the A9 is LPE and FF+.
If TSMC's 16FF+ is only just capable of beating Samsung's 14 LPE with around 9% area disadvantage then it should be much better for AMD with LPP being what 15% better than LPE?
The weak NMOS...
Don't we already have an AMD slide showing that 14nm is cheaper per transistor?
Does 16FF even exist for TSMC now? I can't find any evidence of it in their materials, only 16FF+ and 16FFC (compact) coming next year.
Chipworks i6s teardown hints that the A9 could be 14 LPE with Samsung and...
AMD CPUs can easily match Intel when all CPU resources are used.
The only thing we can tell from Ashes is that nobody seems to know what is going on there.
We know from many other benchmarks that when the FX cores are being used then it is much faster than the i3 and i5, and often equals the...
Mostly because of gamers who won't touch FX. DX12 should solve AMD's single core problems in games though, so if gaming performance is nearly identical and you get 8 cores instead of 6 or 4, it's a no-brainer choice. Nobody is going to buy Intel because of SuperPi.
Intel doesn't have much...
Do you have a link to proof of this? I'm not even sure Samsung has LPP at all otherwise AMD would be using them earlier than GlobalFoundries instead of later, wouldn't they?
There's enough reason to delay it when Anandtech's chief editor tells them that they'll get a bad review based on the state of AFR.
Dual Fiji was always meant to be a VR card.
None of what Kumar said makes sense and flies in the face of everything Su has said up till this point.
From Q2 to Q3 Su has talked about a dual tapeout (Q2) and multiple tapeouts over both foundries (Q3). It just doesn't make sense for Zen not to have taped out.
Alt: Kumar is talking about...
