EVGA 1080 SC after BIOS update...

I have a post on the evga forums about the issue as of yesterday. so far no official replies, though some helpful users have let me know of a way to restore the original bios. After i get my waterblock tomorrow i'll try reverting the BIOS to the original version, hopefully that restores gpu boost.

did try overclocking it some, nothing crazy, just to see if it would work(50mhz core, and 50mhz memory) but the clocks still stay the same. locked at 1709 / 5005.

Would you still get a FTW?

If i could go back in time, I'd have gone with a different brand. very unhappy with my now very noisy 1080, that no longer uses gpu boost at all, but hey, the temps are lower.

Would you consider the GTX1060 3GB worthy if it was 25€ cheaper?

I wouldn't consider a 3gb card currently especially at a price difference of only 25. Just save up another month or two and get the 6gb version. Alternatively, look at an AMD RX480.

Intel 6th Gen i5 6500 good enough for gaming?

That only happens on old cpu's with really old thermal paste that's basically turned into glue over years of heat cycling. with a fresh cpu and fresh paste there's no chance of that happening. Not to mention the way modern intel cpu's are designed and retained, its impossible to happen now days...

I'm just concerned about the pricing. If the reference/founders edition cards are going for $699, why would any vender stick to the $599 price point for their custom models which will be faster/quieter/cooler than a reference card? Generally the 'better' product ends up with a higher price tag...

I'd say it all depends on your budget. If you have no need for the cash from selling all the 290x, throw em in the kids computers and sell the 280's. If you're strapped for cash, sell the 290's now for more money(probably not much more though) and upgrade it down the line when they get a game...

With HBM and 14/16nm shrinking GPU area, will we see m.2 GPUs?

any GPU that could fit in the space and thermal constraints of an m.2 slot would likely be similar enough in performance to the CPU's IGP that it would be pointless, especially if we're talking about an AMD APU. There's just no reason to waste the space on an M.2 slot and additional cooling...
