Strange Networking Problem - transfering files.

You may be seeing some read/write permission probs mixing 2k and ME. Are you using NTFS partitions on your 2k machines?

At wits' end with new mobo and IDE controller

Win2k shows COM1 and COM2 ports as conflicted...help!

Well I would check the bios to see if the coms are enabled. Also are you using a modem what com does it have?

A few more things... does tcpip work on that machine...can you ping the loopback 127.0.0.1? Is the other machine Identical or does it maybe have IPX/SPX or NetBios installed?

Question on selling a system without win9X cd

Not sure if you can do this with win98 but you could say that the person was supposed to buy a license from MS. I'm just not sure if you can buy a 98 license from MS without the SW I know you can for NT based.

Honestly sounds like the CPU. Did you maybe get a lil excited at the game and jossle your case? I'd say a. you jossled it and now the cpu is loose somehow (not likely) or b. something else is wrong with the CPU I don't mean to be so generic but I don't want to tell you it's dead. Try reseating...

Linksys Router and DCC sends

Do you have the router blocking any of the ports? I think DCC sends use a diff port than what mIRC uses for chat so you may want to check on that. I don't use a router but I do use firewall software and just having the mIRC port open was not good enough. I disabled the firewall briefly and bang...

You have the text right as for the file itself: Copy lmhosts.sam to same dir rename copy to whatever.txt drop to command prompt and go to dir of the file run command: rename whatever.txt lmhosts just make sure the file has no extention. Good luck.

PCI 3dfx or ATI

I say Radeon because not only does the 3dfx card have little support it has NO support. You'll be searching for homemade driver fixes the next time you buy a game and it doesn't work. At least the ATI is a work in progress with the Voodoo what you see is what you get.

Hardware 1 (425) 635-7040 90 days from 1st call So long as it's actually broken and not user problems they are cool. If it turns out its your fault you are having this problem they may try to charge you for the support. ( I doubt it though)

Insane and bizarre problems with new Athlon system

I use the X-Gamer. I think most of the VIA chipset problems with the Live is really with the older Values. At least the X-gamers are cheaper now. (not by much tho)I have the same MB/CPU that would be why I compare, forgot to mention.

Problem with Teac 512EB IDE Burner

My guess is it's the IDE performance of the board under 2k. The current VIA 4 in 1 driver has no updates in it for IDE in 2k. If you go hereyou can get the 4.29 beta drivers. This is the first set from via that has a newer IDE driver. It's still in testing and viahardware has had mixed responses...

Quick question about Athlon cpu install

Did you buy this as a HSF/CPU combo? If so the company you purchased it from might have been nice enough to include a heat sensor. This being the case check your MB documentation to see if you have the connector for it if you don't, well then don't worry about it.

Its possible that the Matrox driver overwrote the updated VIA agp driver you installed. Some Vid card drivers do that (ATI) so try reinstalling it.

Help with low level format on Compaq

Before you do that remove the cache module and clean the edges with a pencil erasor or contact cleaner. I have seen that on some DP 2000's and it's actually on the support issues for this model.

RAID SCSI Ultra160/other Ultra devices question

This is only a guess because I have never used that equipment but I set up RAID configs all the time. I don't think you will have a problem so long as you don't try to split the one channel to both the internad and external. Doesn't sound like thats what you have in mind any way.

Hard Drive formatted, now how do I install Windows?

The upgrade disk is bootable load in the 98 cd and boot the computer to cd. It will do a full install for you and at some point it will ask you for proof of upgrade and will want you to enter in the identification # of your previous windows install (95) enter it and away you go! I have done this...

How can I find out what processes are using my memory?

AC the plural of 'cache' is 'cache' so there is no plural. (I guess) How much ram do you have mariner? My guess on the mystery ram is the kernal. Its been months since I read the books but I believe the core of the windows OS (kernal) uses system memory but is not displayed as an app or process...

Serious performance issues...

I agree with Rendus check on your DMA settings <properties for the HD channel in Device manager>(just in case) Also make sure you have the VIA all in one drivers installed. (agp, ide etc...) I'm a tech also so try to remember when a good tech has problems its usually something small and stupid...

Memory Upgrade screw-up - Help!

I have a Gigabyte 6vx4x and an Abit bx6r2 and neither will allow me to mix ECC with reg ram even if it is disabled. Who knows maybe you'll have better luck. If its an option though I would go and get reg ram that way you will always be able to mix without problems.

Delta Force: Land Warrior Wont work over network!

Well make sure you are running at least version 1.0.0.23 I think thats it. Landwarrior had some issues with earlier versions and running server. I will try it at home tonight and see if I have any trouble.
