xp users: how many of you have gone back to win2k?

Windows XP installed on december 5th 2001... Must be a record for any operating system I've ever used!

Via epia and divx

I'm lookin for a "livingroom"-pc, for mainly divx and mp3. Because of the absence of active cooling I figure a via epia with 800mhz c3 processor would be perfect for it. The older c3 seemed to rate 10-15% under a celeron with the same clockspeed, which makes it compare to a 650-700mhz celeron...

Nothing on screen before windows comes up, what gives?

Same problem here on an fairly old hp. (pII 266 somethingsomething) with a matrox millenium. I have an old isa (!) card in the machine if I need to see something in the bios.... (I switch the monitor cable) Windows automaticaly chooses the matrox when it's destop time. A better solution is...

No dvi on thinkpad t23?

I have thinkpad t23 with a portreplicator and t545 tft screen. I can use the tft with the analog cable through the portreplicator, but I want to use dvi. I use w2k, but during boot I should be a able to get an image so it's not os related. Any thoughts welcome..

Dell was right... On a laptop everything is integrated into a 2 or three pieces. it's nothing like the interior of a normal pc.

transferring user settings in xp

export your setting with the wizard, log on as the new user, import the setings. I think that should do the trick

Solved: Language problem on HP laserjet 4000 TN

This must be one of the stupidiest questions I ever asked... How do I change the language in which messages on the controlpanel of the printer itself appear? I don't mean the driver-language or the kind of pcl language... I just wan't to have it say "Ready" instead of "Klaar" (which is Ready...

If a packet collides in the forrest...

As long as the movies don't stutter don't worry. It's because data tarnsfer while playing video is HUGH and since the hub transmits every packet to all ports, you'll get a constant "on" on the collision light. If you don't want collisions buy a switch to replace the hub.

IBM Thinkpad Ultrabay compatibility

The ultrabay drive is an 8x 4x 24x. I don't think you get those speed with usb. I dunno about firewire. We use the ultrabay drive overhere at work an ppl like 'em.

Windows NT4 server and lost cursor?

Check in control panel - devices if the Mouse Class Driver is started if no set it to system under the startup button. Check if the bus mouse is disabled Check if there's only one mouse driver started. Something like i80xxx keyboard and ps2 driver also in devices.

CAT5 Cable Question

Twisted=crossover Booted=it's got a nice sleeve on the connector a patch cable is a short cat5 cable used to connect for example wall outlets to switches. We have way more outlets then actual connections, so we use a patch cable to connect only the outlets we need a crossover cable never...

Can I create a boot disc that does this?

Yes you can. Format a disk under win2k, copy boot.ini, ntldr and bootsect.dos to it. Use that disk to make the cd-rom bootable

ibshort86: Such a cable definatly would increase your ping, since a cat 5 cable may not be longer than 100 mtrs (300ft)

System won't power up, any suggestions?

If it turns on 'for a while' after you plug in Ac and then goes down, that's what an atx mobo does with a psu w/o it's own powerswitch. If after that nothing happens when you hit the powerbutton, unplug the connection to the powerswitch and try the reset key on the same connection. Worked for me...
