News AMD Announces Radeon VII

Really hoped to hear about the mythical 300$ 1080 level navi card. Instead of that we now have a bunch of power hungry gpu's out of reach in price for most people. It might take more than 3 years to a get a performance per dollar uplift for the 250$ range.

Great, this probably means that the previously low end gpu tiers (the esports cards like the *50 line) are now creeping into the 200-250$ msrp bracket. Those consoles (even with the price hikes) are starting to look like a decent offering.

Go for 2k or 4k?

32 inches for 1440p has the same pixel density as a 24 inch 1080p screen. Seem like a hefty downgrade to the 32inch 4k dell monitor. I have an LG 4k VA monitor and have to say that some games look really good on 4k compared to the lower resolutions, not to mention the text sharpness i get when...

Don't most of those 1440p 144hz monitors have TN panels? Is having a monitor with 144hz refresh rate, poor viewing angles and color reproduction a better trade-off than an ips/va, 60hz (freesync/gsync) monitor at 4k for gaming?

It's impressive how the gpu prices have been inflated for close to a year now. I should have bought that sapphire rx 480 when it was available for 230 euro about a century ago. I'm stuck with my RX 560 which is a pretty good deal for the 90 euros i paid for it, but not enough for my modest...

Do I need a dedicated GPU?

Why not just buy the barebone igpu version and add a gpu if/when such a need arises. Maybe by that time you will have better options for more powerful and cheap gpu's.

Which one to connect in rx570 nitro.

Why not just undervolt the card and lower the clocks a bit? When my rx 470 was still healthy, i tried to undervolt it in windows and i could seriously lower the voltage from the default state without losing any performance.

I wonder if vega is actually pretty good at per/watt, but is being pushed really hard with the high clocks and voltage, just so that they could get near 1080~ performance, losing the efficiency and still ending up as a massive failure in the eyes of gamers? Looking at rx 570 aftermarket cards...

Ethereum GPU mining?

It's insane, all the stores around me have been scraped clean for the last few months, no 470's to 580's (1060's and 1070's are in shortage too), even second hand markets are mostly empty. It would seem to me that many people will have a hard time getting rid of their mining gpu's when everybody...

Ryzen 7 stability

r7 1700 stock with Asrock b350 pro4 and an amd r7 360 gpu. Have not encountered any strange behaviour for the 3 months that i own the cpu. I am however running linux and have not made a swap partition for hibernation.

Ha! the only thing wrong with mine was also fans and they were working, it's just that they started to make this annoying sound. I thought that this would be an easy repair.... Can't say i'm sad about the situation, since the store will return the money i paid for the card. It's interesting...

No, i had an RX 470 and the estimated time of arrival for the new ones is later than mostly every where else in Europe. Though now having a quick glance at these 500 series rebrands, seems that they come with terrible presets for power consumption. Found only one 6-pin version and it's a one fan...

I did not go into details on the phone, but i there are a few nvidia models, or just take the money i guess. I'm not interested in nvidia cards (because of the proprietary drivers on linux), especially the 3gb 1060's, so i'm thinking that maybe i should wait this out, but i'm not all that keen...

So is this crap going to continue for long? I just got a call today that my rx 470 red devil won't be returning from the warranty service, so they gave me an option to choose a new card at a similar price point - and there are no 470/570/480/580's available, at least not at a similar price point.

Is 3GB enough for 1080p?

From what i remember the 1060 3gb version also has 10% fewer shader units than the 6gb version. Really strange choice by nvidia to give more ram to the 1050ti, than the more powerful 1060 3gb version, and then for some reason cut out some cuda cores from it to boot.

Building a workstation, trying to choose between 7700k and 1700

I personally have not had any issues with my r7 1700. The stock motherboard (asrock ab 350 pro4 - which i do not recommend because of only 3 real phases) bios was a bit of a mess, but it had already received 3-4 updates and everything seems to be in order now.

You have to think about it this way: amd has new mainstream cpu's that have 16, 12, 8 threads, plystation and xbox both have 8 core (don't recall if they are multithreaded) cpu's and intel might soon release a mainstream 12 thread cpu. I'm not a game developer, but this does not seem to bode...
