noobie question...

Thanks, folks. I should really put things in context. I've just invested in a HD7850 card and I'm just looking at what is the best option of hooking up the 'second' monitor (my panels only have DVI and D-Sub). The first monitor will be DVI to DVI.

Which of the following is better? HDMI to DVI, or (mini-)Display Port to DVI? I would be grateful if you can give your reasoning for saying one over another. Thanks.

5 Monitor Setup

Since you only want 2D, have you consider a Matrox card? Pick one which has a LFH60 connector and with a cable upgrade, you are looking at 4 analog monitors. Posted from Anandtech.com App for Android

That's my point: Do you think I can run a pair of 1920x1200 screens off the HD7870 and then one screen at 1600x1200 off the HD66XX/77XXX? In this set up, I'd only play games using the pair of 1920x1200 screens.

AMD Eyefinity

Interesting... For 3D gaming, I can live with just two screens (1920x1200 x 2) or even just one screen. For 2D work (Office apps, e-mail, internet, etc.) I really like having three screens (desktop real estate). Would it work better if I use the HD7870 to power the two 1920x1200...

Thanks, Pedroc1999. 7970 is a little out of my league. I'd settle for a 7950. I generally play RPGs (Elder Scrolls IV and V, X3TC), strategy games (Civ4), management games (CityXL, FM13) and, very occasionally, FPS.

Windows 7 beta on an USB stick?

I've downloaded both the 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows 7 beta. Nowadays I only have one rig and I don't plan to trash my rig just to test this OS. Does anyone know whether I can install and boot Windows 7 beta from a USB stick? Thanks.

Do any Athlon XP's come factory unlocked?

not as far as i know... although it's a little bit more involving when compared with the old t'bird, but it is still possible to unlock them yourself... check out tom's hardware, there's a comprehensive guide there!

Which offers Better overclocking : XP 1600+ or Tbird 1400 ?

i can bet on it that the xp will offer better overclocking... do to lower voltage requirement, you can push it just that little bit harder. also, the xp is a more mature core then the t'bird - a little more refined, more head room.

CuervDoh: i live in london, england, and i've seen some cd and dvd drives that have black face-plates in computer fairs. now, the uk is rather backwards when it comes to things like pc's and components and if i can find them here, i'm sure you can nail one from say a large independent supplier...

pc133 ram for my p3 500.

right now, sdram is just soooo cheap that it really doesn't matter... :) additionally, the fact that a lot foundaries have wind down their production for pc100 parts, so pc100 dimms might actually be more expensive than pc133 soon - just a matter of demand. no, getting pc133 is not going to...

Anyone get the new Via 4 in 1 4.43 final drivers?

i've always wondered why you guys need 4-in-1 drivers... :Q i'm using 3 via chipset-based m'board (4 if you include the p3v4x that i'm building my dvd/digital tv rig with) and i've never found the need to use that darn patch. as a matter of fact, the 4-in-1 patches actually make my rigs crash! :|

it is actually very difficult to distinguish the difference two fans if the db rating is less than 10db apart... it is, afterall, a logarithmic scale... ;)
