Thanks guys, appreciate the input.
If I could get a 290 for as cheap as you, i'd be all over it! Unfortunately here in Canada, the 290 selloff isn't as prevalent. Newegg.ca really doesn't have anything with a meaningful discount right now. :( All of the 290's are well over $300.
There has...
A local seller has a 4GB GTX 770 for approximately $200ish.
My question, is there any better value card for the money at this price point? Or should I snap it up? From what I can tell through reading various reviews and benchmarks, this card can hang with a 280X which costs about the same...
Understood. I thought about that and figured that if I can get out of the box performance that is >= an FX8320, might as well do it.
As for video cards, the BF deals are coming about fast and furious up here now. I might grab an R9 290, R9 280X or GTX 770 that there are some good deals on.
That's what i'm thinking as well.
As for the mobo, seems the only substantial difference between H97 and Z97 is with regards to overclocking. H97 can modify the multiplier only (on K-series CPUs) while Z97 can modify multiplier and clock speed. Am I missing anything else?
Wow, had no idea this would get so heated. Any AMD vs. Intel discussion could go that way I guess. :P My options as of now, stretching the budget a little bit:
AMD FX-8320e - $132
MSI 990FXA-GD65V2 - $69.99 AR
Total: $203 + tax
OR
Intel i5-4440 - $150
MSI H97 Guard-Pro - $79.99 AR...
Well this sure escalated quickly. :o
I'm leaning towards the i3 due to the fact that I can drop a Haswell i5/i7 in there down the road, but also that it is 20 dollars less for the CPU and likely also less for the mobo as I wouldn't be overclocking.
Is there any benefit to getting a Z97...
As the title states, looking to build a budget gaming rig and these two processors with their respective motherboards will come in around the same price.
From what I can gather, the i3 will soundly beat the FX in single-threaded performance but will lag in multithreaded applications. Given that...
While i'm not sure that i'd consider heli-skiing in the same league as diving with sharks or touring dangerous radiation polluted disaster sites, I will say that it is probably the most memorable thing i've done in my life.
So yes, i'd probably consider the others if the proper safeguards...
Sorry to hear that techs, I know all too well what getting that diagnosis feels like.
While you might feel overwhelmed right now, keep your head up and know that there have been many recent advances in cancer treatment. And also that the treatment would only be necessary IF the tumour is proven...

Try this one. It's quite different, but has received rave reviews from everyone that i've made it for. I'd recommend about half the amount of salt in the recipe though.
I live in Ottawa, which has a metro population of ~850,000 I believe.
Top this: I'm about 4 or 5 km straight line distance from our Parliament Buildings. :D
As the wiz said, *all* messages and Outlook/Notes data are channelled through the RIM relay service before being sent to the various wireless carriers and then to your device. It is a single point of failure, and something RIM will likely have to address in the future.
Think of it this way...
Summary: BlackBerry Infrastructure Outage
Impact: The following services will be restored once the incident has cleared: BlackBerry Internet Service subscribers will be unable to receive messages and will receive an "x" when sending messages. Subscribers will not be able to access Subscriber...
The outage is North America wide and affecting 100% of users. RIM has not given an ETR, but one would assume they want it up by morning.
The outage started at 8:11PM EST.
Niiiice.
I've been meaning to check out the local range, but I don't know how to approach it. Do you just walk in and say "I want to learn to shoot!" ?
