AIM Alternatives?

OK I've been using GAIM for about 24 hours and it's awesome. I'm still staying away from trillian because all I use is AIM.

I'm trying out GAIM now and so far I like it. Is there anyway to set your profile though? The reason I'm staying away from Trillian is that I don't really want the extra resources if all I use is AIM.

Server Migration

Need a 4-pin(floppy drive type) extension, can't seem to find one!

I would suggest just getting some insultaed wire and doing it yourself, but your handle makes me think otherwise.

Fan suggestions for SK7

I ended up with the YS-Tech 80mm adjustable from newegg. I complained to them about the shipping rates ($6 shipping for one, $12 for two) and they gave me free shipping :) CS Rep Caesar is the man. Thanks for your suggestions guys -Bill

By the end of the week im going to be running a 2400+ with an SK7, but I don't know which fan to get for the heatsink. I want something on the quiet side of things but won't let my temps get too high. Any suggestions? -Bill

xp users: how many of you have gone back to win2k?

I went back. Had it not been for a few annoyance with this particular rig I would have kept XP. I do use it on my other computer however.

No task manager in Win XP

Try CTRL+SHIFT+ESC this is the direct shortcut for the task manager in 2k/XP -Bill

constant hard drive activity: Win XP

In task manager under the process list, enable the columns for IO Read and IO Write activity. Then you can monitor in realtime which processes are writing to the disk. -Bill

AMD and GeForce3 overclocking...

LetsPlayGames: Which Leadtek Ti200 do you have? I have the one with only TV out from newegg. I can't seem to go beyond 220/515 without getting "snow" artifacts in Tribes 2. Do you know what brand memory is on your card? Mine is some company I never heard of that begins with an E (I forgot heh).

Closing L1 bridges with copper wire

I thought this might have been possible before I had the processor in my hands. When I first looked at how small the L1 bridges were I nearly sh*t myself. Good luck and if you do manage post some pics.

Using a holesaw w/ a handheld drill

Could anyone that has used a hole saw with a handheld drill to cut a blowhole describe the method you used. So far some say to use lube and go fast, other say go slow and apply a lot of pressure. (I know what you're thinking.. perverts.) So what is everyone's opinion on cutting the hole?

Anyone know how to build a 60mm to 80mm heatsink fan adapter?

It seems they're all overpriced at ~10-15 dollars just for a molded piece of plastic. Does anyone know a method to construct one? I have thought about using that "plastic cardboard" material from the box which my Epox 8KHA+ came in and just taping the fan completely around the edges to it. Has...

How to determine if CPU is fried?

If those circles are not on the actaul die itself but on the material on which the die sits then it's normal.

Strange mulitplyer issue w/ Epox 8KHA+

Anyone have any insight as to why when I set my multiplyer 140x11.5, my bios resets the multiplyer to 11 but if i make it 137x11.5 it doesnt. Also 133x12 works fine. The CPU is a Athlon XP 1700+ and I'm using the 11/2/2001 bios.

Cooling the Enlight 7237 better

Is it possible to cut the holes without buying a dremel? QuantumSlip, all you have to do is use a drill bit. It takes maybe 1 or 2 seconds per hole.

I have an Athlon XP 1700+ (1.47Ghz) oc'ed to 1606 Mhz. My case temp is 34C idle right now. Room temp is 24C. I'm wondering how I can cool it better. I stuck an 80mm in the back back in addition to the one it came with on the front. I also enlarged the holes on the front to about 5mm in diameter...

Another unlocked XP.. woot

I'm currently at 1606Mhz using 133x12 at 1.7V . Its strange that it does use a slightly higher fsb or multiplyer than shown (this is on an 8KHA+)

Let me just say if you're using the conductive paint BE PRECISE AS HELL. I filled the grooves with silicon thermal compound and used the window defogger paint to bridge it. Basically it's the Tom's Hardware method except the super glue. Those that have a 1700+ how far have you pushed yours...

Plugging hs fan into mobo vs psu

I have a Epox 8KHA+ and an XP 1700+ w/ a Volcano 6cu+ hsf I heard somewhere that it isn't good for such a powerful (7000rpm) fan to run off the motherboard. On the box it says its power input is rated at 4.44W. Is this too much for the motherboard to handle?
