Way to search and open a file in one shot....

Nothinman, Well I'm asuming they will be entering the exact file name so it's either a hit or miss type thing, if the string is present as a filename then it will open that else it will return not found, so it would work that way. Nick, I will give it a shot. I appreciate your help a lot.

Some people I know are very...very...very lazy and need to search a volume with numerous subdirectories for specific documents all labeled by numbers in a preformated fashion. They want to be able to simply type in a document number and have it open up automatically. Is there a simple way to do...

i believe you can manually go do it through the computer mamangement by clicking on the properties of that disk drive and going to the write cache's option

this is happening within 5 to 10 seconds of bootup. the only applications that are loading on bootup are virusscan corporate 7.0 and a built in compaq/hp keyboard utility and mouse utility

All workstations have 256mb ram. I know for a fact they are not getting blue screen errors before this happens. Not much is loading at startup. Nothing abnormal. Memory usage is around 100mb when they get the error.

it is saying that the computer is out of virtual memory, windows is now increasing the size of your pagefile. some applications may not function properly. it happens soon after login.

I'm not sure why you guys think it is necessary to upgrade the old server to 2k3 server. You can just install a fresh 2k3 server on the new server then migrate the old domain information over from the nt4 server to the new 2k3 server using tools available from msft or better ones that are...

A handful of my clients computers have been getting virtual memory errors on boot up. They are win2k pro installations. 256mb ram, default page file size. I tried increasing the page file another 256 mb for min and for max and defragging but I'm still getting the errors. They are currently using...

Is there an easy way to clone the settings/favorites/emails to another machine in winXP?

you could copy the profile but you'd need a network setup (not sure if you have one). you could also go into c:\documents and settings\%username%\favorites and copy that folder to a floppy/cd-r/zip etc. and to get email you have to go into C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local...

yes, add those users to the local users on pc a. then create a group on pc a and add all those users to that group. then simply add that group to the security tab on that folder and enable whatever rights you want. then you can simply remove/add users to that group in local users and group...

i forgot to add that when you disjoin from first domain to workgroup you must copy the user profile before joining new domain then copy it agian after joining new domain. there is no way around this that i know of unless there is a trust between domains.

Thanks for the info guys. Why is it that the snes emulator doesn't work??? It works fine on a desktop 400mhz machine........is there a huge difference in speed b/w a pocket pc 400mhz and desktop 400mhz? I imagine there are some huge architectural differences. Or is it just the display??? Good...

Remove user profiles by script or at logoff in 2k/XP

THis can be done through group policy. There is a policy that will do exactly that. Simply enable it for that OU or group.
