I guess i am inclined towards both, i really like the open setup esp if its a GPU miner for bitcoin or something , or doing some GPU intensive (multi gpu setup) tasks.
For other aesthetic reasons, i like the nice cases but never would spend a whole bunch on just getting a fancy case for CPU
Who is your ISP? some ISP's like the above posted mentioned brand the router with their own firmware and disable a lot of the features.If you were running dd-wrt, changing the default router port to something other than port 80 would have been very easy..
Can i suggest you look into a Juniper networks SSG-5 they go on ebay for 40 bucks - 60 sometimes even lower than 40$ and are solid in terms of firewall features and much better than doing a dd-wrt with firewall (iptables)
