Alright ... problem fixed! Took both drives and instead of using new PC's rear USB ports, I used front USB port. Works just fine! Or maybe it needed to be scanned once on the old computer and it doesn't really matter which USB port it is, back or front. Either way ... everything works now.
Or...
Ok .... success !
Took one of the 4TB drives, connected to my laptop running Windows 7, did DISK fix where it fixed something, connected it back to the media player by TV via USB and it was found.
Doing the same now to the 2nd 4TB hard drive.
So ... what is it? I can't use these 2 drives...
well, now, connetcing my 4tb External HD to my Laptop running Windows 7, it found some errors and I am doing both 1) Automatically fixing file system errors as well as 2) Scanning and attempting to recover bad sectors.
Looks like it's going to take 5 hours for this process to end. Have no idea...
Maybe my post was a bit confusing. My PC is reading all drives ... problem is with my WD Media player and Kdlinks media player that is connected to my TV. Those 4TB hard drives when connected to the media players are not found by the player.
By the way ... how important is it to update all the...
I am totally baffled with something that happened after I started using my new PC. XPS 8900.
I've been using my WD Live media player and now KDLINKS HD720 connecting two WD MyBook 4TB and 128gb flash drive. The hard drives were always iffy and I hated to disconnect them from the TV and then...
I think I'll do the clean install on the SSD drive.
So, now that I have a clean USB and ISO file sitting on my desktop. What do I do? How do I create a bootable USB drive?
thanks
Already getting my ISO file to put on the SD card ... by the way.. does the SD card nee to be empty and only contain the ISO file? Don't feel like erasing my other pictures from there.
not sure that I'll understand exactly what to do with it after, need to watch more youtube videos :-) Unless...
Saw a youtube video and they are suggesting going clean instead of mirroring an old HD. Maybe I should listen? :-) I don't have the original install files but I think you're able to create it on a USB? So, go with a clean slate?
Alright .... I am ready!
Computer is functioning much better after I updated with windows update.
Now ... I got a 500gb SSD and 16gb ram waiting to be used.
My friend, who was supposed to come help me had to back out till weekend. I want to try doing this on my own. He suggested using Norton...
So, thanks to you guys ... just updated Windows ... so far everything is fine, however ... still. .. while transferring a file from 2tb external HD to a 1TB internal, I get a message that says "Can't read from the source file or disk. Given options to try again, skip or cancel and on bottom it...
I would almost agree with you but when I check my resources I often see up to 7gb used. I have lots of Chrome tabs open for work, at the same time have few programs running. I am often close to 7gb at least on the old machine. New DELL, probably because it's a different type of RAM is around...
I finally upgraded my computer after 6-8 years with my old stuff .... should I be happy?
Not yet!
I went from using
(Desktop) DELL Inspiron 570
AMD Sempron 140 Single-Core 2.7GHz; 2GB RAM, 500GB HD
and
(Notebook) Dell Inspiron N4010
8gb RAM, Intel Pentium P6100 @ 2.00Ghz
USB 2.0...
In that case I can even get the SanDisk 960gb for $199 ? I know Samsung is more reliable, but...?
SanDisk Ultra II 960GB SATA III 2.5
Oh, nice, so this means if I can fit it in there, I can have a total of 6 SATA drives running plus one M.2 right?
So I can have a total of 3 drives in there? 2 HD or SSDs and one M.2 ?
Question now is ... for the SSD drive, do I stick with
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
or
Samsung 850 PRO 512GB
or
Samsung 950 PRO
Is it worth the extra cost to go pro? I'll be using HD for some image editing, photo...
So, I finally bit the bullet and bought
DELL XPS 8900 i7-6700 8GB RAM 1TB HDD DVD-RW NVIDIA GT 730 WINDOWS 10
I also bought Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR4 2133 to make it a total of 24gb ram.
Price paid = $630 (refurb)
I am curious to know what to do with multiple hard drives I have and...
and if I decided to go with XPS8900 .... should I go for i7 or i5? based on my needs? I do plan to use SSD drive and keep whatever drive it comes with inside the machine for backup files.
My biggest pain point is
1) Slow USB 2.0
2) Viewing photos (avg 15mb size)
3) Somewhat slow Adobe lightroom
4) Want DVDFab to work faster
5) Usually have 20+ Chrome browser tabs open (after I upgraded my laptop to 8gb ram, seems like almost not a problem)
and I rarely restart my computer.
So...
Should I just get this?
$199
Inspiron 3847, Windows 7 Professional English 64bit (Includes Windows 10 Pro License)
4th Generation Intel® Core™ i3-4170 Processor (3M Cache, 3.70 GHz)
4GB Single Channel DDR3 1600MHz (4GBx1) - I'll upgrade to 16gb
500GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive - don't care...
what's the best thing I can get for $200-300 that will give me USB 3.0, allow me to upgrade to 16gb RAM, and support future upgrades. And overall be a bit faster than my laptop
Dell Inspiron N4010
8gb RAM, Intel Pentium P6100 @ 2.00Ghz
Got it. For some reason, my friend told me that my machine won't handle 64bit and installed 32 instead. Was he wrong and I could have avoided all this back and forward?
Alright ... I'll finally make up my mind and this is going to be my last question that I hope will point me into the right direction as I have no one else to ask.
I don't do any sort of crazy tasks that require latest and greatest. I feel sad (cheap) spending $500 or even $300 just because I...
For me now the thinking is ... I have USB3 card that I can place into any USB2 desktop. I have an SSD drive that I can place into a desktop. I just need a desktop that can handle 8gb ram. That's where my old desktop falls short. Other than that, everything else in terms of speed was fine for me...
I am holding on to an even better desktop now>?
$570 total.
XPS8900
Intel Core 6th Generation i7-6700 Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.0 GHz)
Windows 10 Home 64bit English
1 TB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
8GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2133MHz
16X DVD + RW Drive
Video NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 2GB...
and So ... if the only 3 things that really bother me
1) Slow USB 2.0
2) Slow DVDFab program
3) A little slow on Adobe products
for those 3 improvements I'd be spending $500. Trying to think if it's worth it for me.
By the way, my other route is what my friend is trying to sell to me
$700 =...
I appreciate your input.
Compared to my current laptop, will USB 3,0 be the biggest improvement or will the new system be faster in other things I am doing? I can always add my SSD drive to it but what else other than programs opening faster and installs finishing faster will I notice.
my...
I currently use my laptop as a desktop.
Dell Inspiron N4010
8gb RAM, Intel Pentium P6100 @ 2.00Ghz
USB 2.0 << my biggest problem.
BUT, apparently, my mother has this desktop and she doesn't need it anymore.
DELL Inspiron 570
AMD Sempron 140 Single-Core 2.7GHz; 2GB RAM, 500GB HD
So...
I have a chance to get this system below for just $232 ....
I have these 2 things that I can add to this desktop.
1) Anker® Uspeed USB 3.0 PCI-E Express Card with 4 USB 3.0 Ports and 5V 4-Pin Power Connector for Desktops [VL805 Chipset]
2) SSD drive
Intel 330 Series Solid-State Drive 180 GB...
I see, and that card is another $30. So now, my dilemma is, do I want to spend $150 (120pc+30card) just to go from USB2 to USB3 ... all other speed improvements won't be so noticeable for things I do on my computer.
Thanks
question now is, will that desktop accept my 2 devices (SSD drive and PCI USB 3 card). If YES to both, then it means that for me to get USB3 and a little faster computer, I'll be out $120
